We haven't heard anything about the progress of Avowed - Obsidian's upcoming fantasy RPG - since it was announced all the way back at the 2020 Xbox Games Showcase, but the team provided a very brief update as part of E3 2021.

In a post on Xbox Wire talking about The Outer Worlds 2, it was mentioned that Avowed's development team is "hard at work" on the game, and is "looking forward to showing off what we have been working on soon."

"For those who are wondering about Avowed, the team is hard at work making something we’re sure fans of our games and the Pillars of Eternity universe are going to love. While we are not showing anything right now, we are looking forward to showing off what we have been working on soon.

It’s never been a more exciting time at Obsidian as we get to work on games that we love making. For us, it is about creating worlds for players, where they play who they want to be."

Details about Avowed have been thin on the ground for the past year, with the official website simply stating that it's an "epic first-person RPG set in the fantasy world of Eora," coming to Xbox Series consoles, PC and Xbox Game Pass.

VentureBeat journalist Jeff Grubb reported earlier today that Avowed is currently scheduled to release in 2023 along with many other high-profile Xbox Game Studios projects, but there's been no official word as of yet.
