Obsidian has announced The Outer Worlds 2, but it doesn't know when it's coming or when we'll see more. But it will be available day one on Xbox Game Pass.
The comical self aware trailer pokes fun at the fact it doesn't have much to show, but it at least lets us know it's coming. It'll contain a new solar system, new crew, but will be the same old Outer Worlds.
Along with The Outer Worlds 2, the team is also working on Avowed - a fantasy open-world RPG. There's plenty of RPG goodness on the horizon for Xbox fans, so we can't wait to continue our adventures in their incredible worlds.

Don't get me wrong, yay but I could have done with seeing more of Avowed, Obsidian is famous for having problems with time and "content we want" in the game, and that's when they didn't have three projects on the go.
I did laugh out loud at this.
So Obsidian is making Grounded (still in early access), Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2 at the same time 😮.
@BlueOcean
Yeah, that seems like a lot for a studio I didn't think was that big.
I'm surprised since I think that it was a bit early for an announcement for a sequel, but either way, I'm interested.
I legit did laugh at this 🤣😂 honest trailer i've seen in a while
@Akimi Yep, I was waiting for Grounded to be finished before playing it but it looks interesting, I might try it soon. Avowed looks promising. Perhaps they should just finish one game before making the next one? Like Playground Games, that is finishing Forza Horizon 5 and will focus on Fable now.
Highlight of the show for me, 'Trailer of the Year', did exactly what it needed to, just confirmed that it's on the table
I seriously need to play the first game...erm, first
Can't wait to see more. Like others have said, their honesty was refreshing. Perhaps we will also see another proper Fallout game with their involvement, at some point? I can dream.
I loved this trailer. Was a legitimate highlight of the show for me, definitely the most pleasant surprise.
It was the highlight, but that's worse, because it's also the title that's furthest away from launching.
I would have assumed Avowed would come first, but this E3 was seemingly used to show off 2021 and 2022 games, and Avowed didn't show. Which means that Avowed must not be coming until 2023, which would then put Outer Worlds 2 at least 2025, if not 2026.
Why show a pre-production announcement mixed in with more relevant titles?
Unless Obsidian get some major outsourced support to speed up those timetables, there was zero point announcing OW2 at this E3.
This was a great trailer 😂
Awesome trailer. Awesome exclusive.
Probably, The Outer Worlds 2 comes first because it uses part of the work done for The Outer Worlds whereas Avowed like The Elder Scrolls VI are Skyrim's new-gen successors.
I legit can't wait for this game. I loved loved loved the first game. Bring this on.
And I notice it will be Exclusive to Xbox too...
Certainly better than Fallout and looking forward to the next one
You know, I logged on here especially, so late at night, just a comment and say that I think that was one of the best trailers I've ever seen.
There's no doubt the game is going to be as great, let's face it, greater than the first one (which I did love)
But to frame it in such a hilarious way shows a real understanding, tapping into the industry, the gullibility, the predictability of marketing, just getting it right on so many levels, including the way that brands are criticized and ridiculed in the first game.
Brilliant
Hilarious trailer, though I do feel bad for players without an Xbox or gaming PC.
2022 can't come soon enough.
It was really funny. So much rpg goodness for Xbox.
That teaser was gold.
@Akimi grounded is being developed by a very small team, I keep hearing reported. Someone said once, I think, like 8 people?
But all these studios have been growing a lot since they got acquired. MS didn’t just buy them, they gave them a huge budget to start working on their most ambitious dreams.
@Tharsman
Well that's great if that's the case. I've always liked Obsidian. Not keen on Grounded personally, but definitely interested in Outer Worlds 2 and Avowed.
