E3 will return for 2021 in the form of a digital event, and Xbox has been confirmed to be one of the attendees, along with a host of other companies.
The event will run from June 12 until June 15, and along with Xbox, it will feature appearances from Nintendo, Capcom, Konami, Ubisoft, Take-Two Interactive, Warner Bros. Games, and Koch Media, as revealed by the Entertainment Software Association in a press release.
E3 2021 will be a completely online event, featuring game announcements and news, broadcast to everyone around the world. According to the press release, the ESA will be working alongside the media to “amplify and make this content available to everyone for free”.
While no specifics of the event outside of the dates and attendees has been made public yet, eager fans can sign up for direct updates on the show ahead of its arrival here.
Plans had been mentioned of an event this year, but no confirmed details had surfaced until now. Rumours of a physical event were speculated, but were then reportedly cancelled. Summer Games Fest is also returning and being helmed by Geoff Keighley, so we're going to have plenty of gaming news in the coming months. Exciting times!

Nice to see a more precise timeframe when we'll get news on Xbox games rather than just Game Pass news.
Damn this one's going to be SMALL
Sony, Square Enix, EA, Activision/Blizzard, SEGA and Bandai Namco all backed out of this.
Nice, Can't wait for this event.. I actually missed E3 last year, Glad it's coming back..
I just want all the information to be dropped in June vs spreading it out over 5 months and no more show's like the id@xbox... that too was a disaster. We don't need filler... This ain't a transformers movie... just give us the good stuff
@TheFrenchiestFry It'll still be a little over half the presence. Having Nintendo join back in though is big for them.
Makes me think Xbox have some bomb shells to drop and want that full meida coverage.
Same with Nintendo rumored to show a Switch Pro console and Breath of the Wild 2.
E3 is irrelevant since all the big boys have backed out of it, just kill the event already.
It used to be an event I'd stay up all night for (from UK) and wait in anticipation for the reveal presentations but now its just a bore fest
@Grumblevolcano Technically every Xbox Game Studios news is/will be a Game Pass news.
@Senua The point is that it's more than just Game Pass news. A lot of Game Pass news is about games that have been playable on XB1 for years being added to the service (there have been exceptions recently like Octopath Traveler, Outriders and MLB The Show 21) while Xbox E3 2021 will mostly be about games that aren't yet playable on XB1/Series X so a lot would be both general Xbox consoles news and Game Pass news.
Nintendo hasn't attended E3 since 2012, I doubt they are back this year...
Best book the time off so I can watch it at home till the early hours. Won’t be going on holiday anywhere this year so may as well.
@Link41x Technically they never stopped attending E3
They still had a presence at the show floor, hosted events within E3 like the Smash Invitationals and they had Treehouse Live
It's just that their in person conferences have been replaced by Nintendo Directs
@TheFrenchiestFry I don’t know if it’s that small actually. MS has marketing rights to most of Bandai-Namco’s games right now. I’m not sure what they’d show that the Xbox wouldn’t show for them. And The Xbox show is going to have all the Bethesda coverage. Sony hasn’t been to E3 in a while... was Sega even at E32019? Activison-Blizzrad wasn’t there in 2019z And the EA E3 event was mostly coverage of people playing their games, so it wouldn’t work digitally anyway. I mean the only big loss here is Square-Enix. That’s big loss their are smaller ones but ... Limited Run still might participate.
Also it’s surprising but Konami is going to be there .... hmmmm...
Q) Are you happy to see Xbox backing E3 this year?
A) Very much so. Naturally Xbox is one of the main gaming companies I keep an eye on so it is great to have it reveal more info alongside other companies I keep an eye on. E3 is great for that; a consistent event and time to receive info from numerous companies makes it easier to plan ahead and be able to watch and read up about it.
