Xbox Series X director of project management Jason Ronald recently appeared in a two-hour interview as part of the Iron Lords Podcast, and revealed during the show that he's "very excited" for some unannounced 2021 games.
Ronald was asked which titles he was most hyped for this year, and gave the following response:
"Not all games that are releasing this year have been announced.
There are games that I'm very excited about."
Microsoft has previously teased on a couple of occasions that it has "some surprises" in store from Xbox Game Studios in 2021, although no further details on this have been provided since late last year.
Windows Central editor and noted Xbox insider Jez Corden suggested back in January that Xbox has at least two big unannounced games arriving in 2021, but refrained from providing any further details at the time.
What do you think Xbox has in store for us in 2021? Give us your thoughts down below.

Starfield and..... Wolfenstein 3 shrugs... Probably some small indie games lol
Starfield and Forza Horizon 5? LOL
Hope it’s something decent. Maybe he means bf6?
@BAMozzy
Yeah, that's what I think as well.
Possibly Wolfenstein 3 as well, but I have a feeling that will be early 2022.
Probably Forza Horizon 5, but I wish they announced Quantum Break 2
@blinx01 I think Wolfenstein 3 could be multi-platform as its supposedly the last in a trilogy that started with the 'The New Order' and followed up with the 'The New Colossus'.
There is also the fact that he says Xbox Game Studio's - which Zenimax are not part of - at least not at the moment. That would count out Starfield too of course..
Looking at MS studio's, we know that Halo Infinite (343), Avowed (Obsidian), Fable (Playground), Perfect Dark (Initiative), Forza Motorsport (Turn 10), Everwild (Rare), State of Decay 3 (Undead Labs), Psychonauts 2 (Double Fine) are in development but we haven't heard what the Coalition (Gears 6?), Compulsion (We Happy Few 2?) or InXile (Wasteland 4?) could be working on and of course Playground are likely to be working on Forza Horizon 5 too. It should be a Motorsport year though as Motorsport released on the 'odd' years (5 in 2013, 6 in 2015 and 7 in 2017) and Horizon the even years (2 in 2014, 3 in 2016 and 4 in 2018).
I think Gears 6 is unlikely for 2021 - Gears 4 was 2016 and Gears 5 was 2019 - a 3 year gap so I think its more likely a 2022 release at the earliest - especially as they also recently released Gears Tactics and Hivebusters.
If anything, I think we are more likely to hear what Compulsion's new game is as its been a few years since 'We Happy Few' and coming up to 3years since joining Microsoft. Because I don't know what to expect, its easier to say Starfield...
@eduscxbox I doubt we will see a Quantum Break 2. It wasn't a big seller or a 'success' for MS/Remedy and Remedy went on to create Control and working on CrossfireX single player campaign (an MS exclusive) too. I bet a Control 2 or entirely new IP is 'next' from Remedy. Apart from Max Payne, they haven't really made 'sequels'. Alan Wake's American Nightmare is more a DLC to Alan Wake that ended up becoming a stand alone 'Arcade' game but not really a 'sequel'.
I figured as much, E3 (or whatever MS equivalent for that time of year) hasn't happened yet. Can't wait to see what else is coming to Xbox this year.
@eduscxbox I just finished quantum break last night! Would also love to have a sequel. The way they ended the game leaves the door open for one.
Forza Motorsport 8 and/or Forza Horizon 5 has to be one of them. Preferably the latter.
Conker, is it Conker? Can it be Conker! Please. Also get a Hades port. Anything else would be lovely too. CONKER!!!!!
I’m just here to comment on his iconic beard
@BAMozzy Yeah, everything points to a no for QB2, but I still hope for a miracle lol.
I love that game.
Hell yeah, Can't wait for these to be announced..
Grim Dawn. Nobody expect that game is still coming to XBox.
Microsoft from what I have seen over the years go big for Fall and Christmas time.
Most of their AAA from their studios release then, they never seem to spread them, say one in March or April instead. I think it would be good if they did like release a big game then like Sony and Nintendo around March or April time.
@Nightcrawler71
FH5 for me too please Xbox.
The FH series has grown in game play and sales as the FM series has declined in sales over the years.
They would do themselves a massive big up if they released FH5 a lot more than FM.
FH has the market to itself, there really is nothing like it out there near that quality and it really has established itself as the king of that racing type and with Xbox.
As there are loads of FM type games by third party publishers.
Can we more 60fps enhancements now please Ronald the White?
@Dezzy70 the big goal is to have a new first party release each quarter for gamepass in the future...but that's likely 2 year's away.
@Dezzy70 Nintendo doesn’t actually release that big of a game on March though either. I mean last year was a magic fluke with AC (which was delayed) and BOTW launched the system but Yoshis Crafted World, Kirby Star Allies, and Labo are hardly on the Level that Sony usually release around this time.
Edit: and if I’m honest this is usually the time of year Nintendo likes to launch “remasters” or ports.
@mousieone
Was thinking BOTW of course.
And yes remasters, but that seems to be Nintendo in house studios thing at the minute.
@Dezzy70 Nah it’s been their thing. Two of best selling Switch games are Wii U “Remastered “ ports...
Edit: On a phone
A lot of people mentioning FH5. I’m sure I read somewhere a few months ago that FH5 would release before the next FM. I can’t remember where I read it though.
My money is on FH5 in Japan using the FH4 seasons concept and the same engine as it has already been up worked for series X.
