Xbox Boss Phil Spencer has spoken further about the possibility of Xbox Game Pass coming to iOS devices and how company could make it happen.
In an interview with The Verge, Spencer was asked whether Microsoft would bypass Apple and use Safari as a means to bring Xbox Game Pass to the devices. Spencer sees the method as a solution, but reaffirmed that Apple "actually remains open to the user experience [Microsoft] would like people to see":
"If the device is capable of running a capable web browser, we’re going to be able to bring games to it, which is pretty cool. You’ll be able to bring all of your saved games and your friends and everything comes with you. It’s just Xbox on this new screen with the games. Apple does remain open in the conversations that we have on this topic."
Spencer went on to say that while he understands where Apple is coming from as the company has its own competitor with Apple Arcade, he doesn't necessarily agree with its ideology:
"I can understand their perspective from their position. I don’t say I agree with it, but they have a competitive product in Apple Arcade that is competitive with Xbox Game Pass. I’m sure they like having Apple Arcade as the only game content subscription on their phone. We want access to at-scale compute devices that we think should have open access to services customers want. We’re willing to work with them on safety and other things that people have come up with. We run a platform that takes safety and security very carefully. It is very important to us on Xbox, so that topic is not something that’s foreign to us."
With that in mind, he also acknowledged how the Safari option is a feasible solution and could provide a means of bringing Xbox Game Pass to an assortment of devices:
"It’s one of the things that we navigate. We’re on Android today. I think going with the web solution gives us a lot of opportunity on a lot of different devices."
Previously, Microsoft has criticised Apple's policies on cloud gaming, calling their decision "a bad experience for customers". Back in October, the company also reported to be looking into a "direct browser-based solution" to bring Xbox Game Pass to iOS.

I still will never understand how Apple has managed to endure so long with such a loyal following. The idea of a closed environment computer seems like something that would have gone out of vogue 20 years ago.
I wonder how they will pull this off. I think Safari has no support for game controllers. Recently Apple actually removed a third party web browser for adding their own support for controllers, something that allowed Stadia to work on iOS.
As an iPhone user myself, Apple is beyond annoying about this stuff.
