We've been wondering for a while whether Halo: The Master Chief Collection would be optimised for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, and now we've got our answer!
Microsoft and 343 have confirmed that the next-gen version of the package will be available beginning November 17th as a free upgrade for owners of the game (also available to Xbox Game Pass members), and will include support for 120 frames per-second in both campaign and multiplayer on the two consoles.
This optimised version will also feature up to 4K resolution on Xbox Series X and "split-screen improvements", along with cross-gen play and an adjustable field of view. Great stuff!
Looking forward to playing Halo: The Master Chief Collection at 120FPS? Let us know below.

Perfect, It's been a decade and I plan to play through local coop on the old Halo games, so glad this has hit the list.
Have to love their commitment to backwards compatibility. Love being able to play my library of games with enhancements.
Halo at 120fps is great. Been a joy with 120fps, mouse and keyboard
That’s cool they’re really pushing 120fps which is great if you have a screen to display it.
Nice! I won't be investing in a 120hz TV for a while, but it's cool that it's getting this free upgrade.
I'll just be happy with stable frame rate for Halo 2 Anniversary; that thing runs like garbage on the One X.
Is it gonna have ray tracing, any time soon?
Yes!! This is fantastic news 😁
Just when I was looking for an excuse to play all of these beautifull games all over again.
Master Chief, here I come.
I am installing it on my Xbox one right now. Great timing, now I might as well just wait a month.
I just played through all of these recently... Curses should had waited.
Well, hope they do something similar to all the Gears games.
That's awsome news, Halo at 120 FPS sounds amazing..
This is great news. Not something I will use, but maybe in the future.
With this, and crossplay, the only thing missing from this collection now is 4 player split screen in all modes and 4 player co-op in CE and 2. Fingers crossed they are looking in to those.
@Olliemar28 Same! Currently going through Halo CE. Soul destroying to see all these lovely remastered graphics but an awful framerate - seemingly whenever outside.
Just want to echo those saying that the most exciting thing is the potential for the Halo and Halo 2 Campaigns to run properly, there’s some pretty bad frame rate dips in there.
Thts great news. I got onto halo late, but it’s an amazing franchise. It’s says upto 4k aswell, so that means dynamic resolution? Anyways fantastic news, I’m currently playing through halo 3 on the one s, so when I do get around to getting a series x, it’ll be great to play them on higher fps.
@Medic_Alert I would love a repackaged Gears Saga, even if it just recompiled the 360 games the way MCC direct-ported the 360 entries, if nothing else, it would be nice to have a more seamless OS UI, since BC 360 games still use 360 UI for thi td like achievement tracking.
I just doubt they will invest the resources on it since it would not sell too many units (I think) due to them all being playable already in Game Pass. Sadly, the 360 enhancements seem to stop at 60fps, so no Gears 2 120fps.
I wonder what "fully optimized" means? For those of us not running >60hz screens, is there any benefit here?
@Tharsman
I am in the same boat. I have played through all the campaigns recently (just finished Reach over the weekend). They are all still awesome games.
@NEStalgia silky smooth 4K at 60 FPS with some hdr support, would be nice if it included ray tracing but I imagine it will be smoother than Xbox One X, personally I’m coming from Xbox 360 so it’s going to be a grand improvement.
Oh boy, this is gonna jump up the used price again.
Better look for it.
Does MCC support mouse and keyboard on console? That plus 120fps would get me to replay it on my XSX
So Series S/X will have next gen optimised Halo, Gears (x2) and Forza games at launch...
Ok so only Gears Tactics is 'new' (to consoles) but having all their big franchises with Series S/X versions adds to the launch line-up as far as I am concerned.
Very nice, but I already got that upgrade with the PC version.
