Original Story (Wed 22nd Apr, 2020 11:00 BST): Here's an interesting start to the day! First spotted by users over at Reddit, Microsoft has trademarked a new logo for the upcoming Xbox Series X. It was actually filed back on April 16th (as detailed over at Justia), and is described as "the word SERIES in a vertical formation to the right of which appears a stylized letter X."
Nibellion over at Twitter has made up a couple of images of the smart-looking logo on white and black backgrounds, which you can see below:

We're not yet sure what this logo will be used for (and how prevalent it'll be) - it could be implemented on packing material or something along those lines, for example. In any case, Microsoft is rumoured to be holding a new next-gen reveal event in early May, so we may get to see more of it then.

I thought the new logo was going to appeal to the active community for a second there due to this ad placement:

I like it because it's different than Xbox One and because the big X makes easier to recognise the model that you're getting. On physical games it would look like the Switch logo on a corner, with the Xbox brand on top, probably.
As others have said it’s nice, clean and simple. I like it.

I wonder if they'll just call it X this gen, and it becomes the start of a numbering system. So next next gen will be X2, and then the X3, and X4 etc.

Unpopular opinion: ...I don't hate it, but I'm also not a huge fan. To me, the X-in-a-circle is damn near iconic at this point... it'd be a shame to see it go.

You bring up a great point. I do love the current “X” in a circle logo too. But maybe they’ll keep that one for the overall Xbox brand logo & this new one is just for the Series X console? Not sure.

@Alpha-2002 @KelticDevil I think so. A Microsoft engineer, the one with the long beard, said that next gen is just "Xbox" with Microsoft releasing several models in the future. The Xbox brand has been protected even when they launched Play Anywhere (they could have named everything Windows or Microsoft) and they love their logo and their X (me too) so I think that the logo will be exactly the same, note that the power button on Series X and the home button on the Series X controller are the same, and Series X will be the model name with different design.
