Topic: Any military FPS on the one

Destiny was fun for a while but the crucible is absolutely broken and I refuse/don't have time to sink hundreds of hours into PVE in the hopes of getting lucky with a decent weapon drop. Outside of the Battlefield series is there any just good old fashioned boots on the ground military shooter on the One? No laser guns or super jumping powers or all powerful 'super' moves. Or do I have to wait and hope that Infinity Ward brings shooters back to the ground?

Third person game (but you can shoot in first person) but Sniper Elite III comes to mind. Could also play COD: Ghosts.

Apart from CoD and BF there isn't any military based FPS games with an MP. Far Cry 4 has a Multi-player though doesn't it? Advanced Warfare does have an exo-free Multi-player playlist but BF4 and Ghosts are probably the only 2 with boots on the ground shooting (well if you discount the air vehicles in BF4....)

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??

Feel free to add me but please send a message so I know where you know me from...

Ghosts was alright, problem is last time I popped the game in there weren't many people playing. Was tough to find a game. Maybe I'll give Battlefield Hardline a try, cops and robbers sounds pretty fun. I wonder if the Medal of Honor franchise will ever come back, I remember those games being a lot of fun.

Medal of Honor was officially 'retired' by EA after the last one flopped. They had hoped it would fill in the gap on alternative years to the BF series - similar to CoD with its 2 (now 3) different development teams. Danger Close (Medal of Honor) was to be the Treyarch to Dice's (BF) Infinity Ward. It seems that role is now taken up by Visceral with BF: Hardline although Dices next release is expected to be Star Wars: Battlefront. The only FPS games with release dates this year so far is Halo 5 but no doubt CoD will arrive in November. Only other potential could be Homefront although it has had a bit of a tumultuous development but there could be a surprise or 2 at E3.

There is a pretty big difference between "out of the rotation" which is what Pete Moore said and "retired".

Well they both mean that they are not being made anymore and just because I chose the terminology of 'retired' doesn't mean it can't be broght back out of retirement or put back into rotation so there isn't that much of a difference....

I liked Medal of Honor a lot back in the day but the last Medal of Honor game was quite bad. Hopefully something crops up to fill the gap. Not really all that much to play on current gen compared to this time in the 360's lifespan.

I think it is completely the opposite. We're getting like a dozen interesting new releases every month.

If you include indie download titles then there are more, but it feels a little barren of proper boxed AAA stuff. Hopefully Gears, Crackdown, Fable and Halo make their appearance soon. Thus far there has been a lot of remasters and outside of Forza (which I think they did a great job getting Forza on the One ASAP) I feel the big Microsoft franchises have been lacking.

Well, they are games so it would be a bit weird to not include them, wouldn't it?

Can't compare an #IDARB to a proper AAA release like Forza Horizon 2 though. That is like comparing a Lada to a Mustang. Sure they are both cars but one is clearly much more car than the other. I feel like both Xbox One and PS4 are padding their libraries with indie games instead of delivering the big titles and franchises, old and new.

Yeah, #IDARB is more fun

Nah, I'm with Bobby here. I didn't pay £600 to play 8 bit looking games...I want to be amazed. Don't get me wrong, I've laughed (and cried) more playing #IDARB, but it can't compare with FH2's scope or ambition. I cannot wait until I can see where they are going with Gears.

I'm with Bobby and Red. I'm so looking forward to Batman and Halo and I'm really not a fan of games that look 30 years old.

I too get nothing from 'indie' games. Not only do the Indie games (in general) look 25+ years old they also play like those too. Its as if indie development teams are 25+ years behind AAA games. I am not denying that they can be a bit of fun but lack so much of what we expect from a AAA game. Something like Destiny was heavily criticised for its 'lack' of Story yet has more story than indie games have.
At least we have games like the Witcher 3 and Batman: Arkham Knight in the next couple of months. Both games cost 3-4 times as much as an Indie game but give much much more. Its not just visual differences but the depth of the game worlds, the quality of the story etc.
I see indie games more like a kids soapbox go-kart - can be good fun but very limited- compared to a AAA Nissan GTR which is a lot more fun, more options, better looking, sound better, last longer, something you want to drive everyday and a much more engaging and emotional experience. Its like looking at a kids drawing of a place (indie) and actually being there and experiencing the sights and sounds (AAA)
There is a reason I bought next gen consoles instead of sticking with a NES. It isn't just about the visuals although they do help enhance the experience. Its everything - Sound, depth of story, depth of the world created, depth of characters etc - everything.

I don't know if I can join in with the indie-bashing. In fact, I do know that I can't.

Even on "retro" styled indie games, there are FAR more things going on than you'd find in a SNES or NES game. Particle effects are just one of the things that you didn't used to see in those older titles.

I don't separate indie and retail games. A game is a game. Sure, a game with fantastic graphics is instantly noticable, but half of the "superb" looking games have paper-thin stories that don't hold a candle to the likes of Valiant Hearts or Braid. As for game length...sure...you can have a game that lasts for 12 hours that contains 6 hours of filler, or you can play a well-designed, well thought-out game that is fun from start to finish. I'll take the latter if I have to. Means I have time to play more games.

You might want to actually take a look at what games looked like 30 years ago and compare them to something like Axiom Verge or Shovel Knight. Not the same, bro...

Axiom Verge is just a metroid clone and Shovel Knight is just a 'Ghosts and Goblins' wannabe - both 80's games

And Forza Horizon 2 is just Pole Position, Continental Circus, or Night Driver with better graphics. Elite Dangerous is Star Wars: The Arcade Game. Call of Duty is Operation Wolf. Virtua Tennis 4 is Pong etc etc.

I could go on.
