Topic: ADVICE: Should I get an Xbox One?

Hi, I've been trying to weigh the pros and cons to getting an Xbox One. with such a bad hype and a lot of people complaining I have been skeptical. I have a PS4 and a Wii U. I want to complete the collection but don't want to drop half a grand (probably more for games and live gold) without being sure. and advice would be great. the pros, the cons. thanks for the help.

Hi SunnyShores,
To be honest, it's going to depend on the sort of games that you like and which ones you've already played. If you've not played ACIV, NFS: Rivals, FIFA, Madden, NBA Live, Rayman Legends, Tomb Raider etc. on another platform, then they're available and make the console a much better proposition.

Aside from that, there are some great Xbox One titles available. Ryse, Dead Rising 3, Forza 5, Peggle 2, Crimson Dragon, Plants vs Zombies, Project Spark - all worth playing. Titanfall is on the way too next week, and looks to be a must-have.

Pros - Next-gen games, exclusives starting to filter through, Titanfall, Kinect works this time around, controller.

Cons - Costs £400, not necessarily as many exclusives available as I'd like at this point.

I may have missed a couple things, but I've only just woken up.

Hope this helps!

It just depends how much you like the Microsoft exclusives. I'm trying to decide between the three, as I'm not even sure I'll have time to keep up with one. If they were all priced the same, I'd go with the One. The price is the only thing holding me back from going Microsoft. I really like the exclusives list for the XBox One as far as the entire family is concerned. There are family-fun titles like Zoo Tycoon, Kinect Sports Rivals, Project Spark, and even Powerstar Golf to an extent. And then there will be more hardcore games like Titanfall, Halo, Quantum Break, etc. Another wild card will be Sunset Overdrive. That one could be one of the surprises of 2014 or 2015.

Pros:
Excellent game lineup in the future
More indie games coming(due to improved policies)
Definitely better overall comparing to Xbox 360
You don't have to use kinect
Privacy settings
Cons:
$500/£400 price
Not a good launch(Happens to all systems)

The pros overweigh the cons and I really think that you should get the Xbox One.

I've got to be completely honest, I'm not sure any of the 3 new-gen consoles are worth it yet. Somewhat excusable on the part of Sony and MS as both companies just put out their new consoles but the fact that Wii U has really only two must-own games at this point is embarrassing. Granted, I'm one of the more pessimistic people who visits these 3 websites, but I just call it as I see it. Not saying X1 doesn't have some good upcoming stuff, but outside of Titanfall, it seems like the stuff I'd consider must-buy (Halo, Gears, Quantum Break) are a ways off. I'm hoping the release of Halo 5 sees a price drop on X1 hardware around the same time, with a nifty special edition console bundle for say $450.

@TheXboxHero

That was a nice helpful post, probably moreso than my typical negative attitude towards everything gaming these days. But just one thing I thought was interesting was you said all consoles have bad launches. I agree in most cases launches are meh, but I'd say what disappoints me about X1's launch is how good 360's was. Perfect Dark Zero didn't live up to the hype, but it did have Project Gotham Racing 3 and Call of Duty 2 as the heavy-hitting block busters and then fleshed it out with releases like Condemned: Criminal Origins and Need For Speed Most Wanted- both awesome games- as well as NBA 2K6, Kameo (underrated) and not too long after was DoA 4 which was a good game. The Xbox 360 had one of the better 'launch window' lineups in the history of the industry, imo, and was worth a buy from day one. I feel like with X1 and PS4 both MS and Sony are struggling to find their footing. Granted the market has changed significantly since November 2005.

Just curious as to which games you are referring to.

Wii U Must-Own Games in my opinion:

3D World
Rayman Legends (different experience on Wii U than other systems)
Tropical Freeze
Pikmin 3

Those are just the big ones based on my interests.  Other solid Wii U games include Wind Waker HD, The Wonderful 101, New Super Mario Bros U, etc.  The Wii U's library of great games isn't as big as it probably should be, but it's definitely better than most give it credit for.

Super Mario 3D World and Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze. I'll acknowledge it has a few others that have some appeal, but they're more niche. Games like W101 and Pikmin 3.

Honestly, if you have a PS4 already then I wouldn't recommend the Xbox One...yet. The same goes if it was reversed. It's just way too early in both consoles' lifespan to own both right now. I'm interested to see where both consoles are 12-18 months down the road.

Personally, I went with the X1 because I thought their lineup was stronger and I felt the console was more "next-gen." March is a solid month for both machines though. Titanfall and Infamous: Second Son are system sellers, in my opinion.

I will agree with this and say it's probably the best advice right now.  Unless there is a must play game like Titanfall and you dont have an XBox 360 or PC capable of running it then I guess you might as well get one.  But honestly if you have a PS4 right now I would concentrate on that and give the Xbox One at least six months to a year.  At least that's what I am planning to do.

Okay I see where you're coming from, I don't myself consider Pikmin a niche series as it has sold consistantly solid numbers and I would probably add Nintendo Land and Super Luigi U to the list at least the list is going to expand this year though with MK8, SSB4 and Bayonetta.

I personally am waiting for more games to be announced for and released on the Xbox One and PS4 before I make a purchase as I think the price will be around the £300 mark relatively quickly this gen.

Mario Kart 8 will definitely grow the list. Bayonetta is another one I think I'd put more in the niche category. It's definitely a love it or hate it kind of game. I'm interested to see how it sells though. As for Smash Bros. I hope it can expand the list of must-play games in 2014 but I'm not counting on it. Nintendo says it's this year but I don't know, it still seems like a game that's a ways off but both Wii U and 3DS need a big holiday release and Smash would obviously fit the bill. I just with they'd confirm a date already, even if it is 2015, so I can pre-order it for my 3DS.

thanks for the advice. I went ahead and bought an xbox one titanfall edition. looks the same just comes with titanfall for free. the game list is small, but I have always been more excited by xbox exclusives. now I own all three next gen systems. my favorite s my ps4. not to stir up trouble but it's just better. you can really tell the difference between the quality of ps4 exclusives and xbox one exclusives. but I really enjoy the xbox one. instead of comparing the two i'll just enjoy them for what they are, two different systems.

I'm not really understanding this whole niche game list, an excellent game is an excellent game and should be a must buy whether its niche or not shouldn't really matter but I do agree about Smash Nintendo need to announce a firm release date hopefully at EVO.

As long as it has games you want, then buy it. I got the TitanFall bundle, yesterday, so I've been messing around with the Kinect and such. Dead Rising 3 is my most wanted for it.

I really liked DR1 & 2, so it just seems natural to want the newset one.
