Topic: Xbox Series X Crashing Only On Certain Games

So I recently bought a second hand Xbox Series X and after playing a bit I've had issues with certain games that freeze and crash. The first was Death Stranding I played for hours and it started freezing and crashing every time I tried to play. The next game was Indiana Jones and the great Circle it would literally freeze and crash as soon as the game starts. I then had it happen with Halo infinite and that wont even load. I've played Lara Croft the temple of Osiris for hours with zero issues as well as well as Atom fall, Forza 5 and MechWarrior. I applied new thermal paste, cleaned the little dust that it had in it, turned off quick resume, cleared local data and did a full reset with no change. I even thought maybe it was overheating because I never hear the fan ramp up so I pulled the one pin on the fan that controls speed so it would run at full speed and it changed nothing. After having zero issues with Forza I kinda thought I was good to go and bought UFC 6 today and that let me play for 30 minutes then crashed the xbox to reset and now it crashes every time before you even get to game play. I'm more of a pc gamer and I'm new to the xbox so any help or a point in the right direction of what to try would be appreciated. I'm at a loss and thinking maybe SSD problem. No clue

Are the games on disc or digital?

@KnightRider1982 I've read several but hadn't read that one yet. I thought maybe my fan was the problem but I pulled the pin on the fan plug which makes it run at full speed at all times and it made no difference and I even put a box fan directly on it tonight and nothing. The weird thing is forza 5 which is pretty intensive has zero issues.

@ADKFLYER If the crashing still exists, then I'd get another XSX and see if the same thing happens on that console.

@KnightRider1982 Thanks for your help. I do have another XBOX and it doesn't do it. I'm trying to find someone who has or had a similar issue who resolved it. I'm hoping they could point me in the right direction like was it the SSD, maybe the RAM or something like that. If the SSD's weren't so ungodly expensive I'd just clone the drive to a new one and test the theory. My other Xbox is brand new so I'm definitely not doing it with that one lol.

I assumed there would others on here who have dealt with these issues and have found an answer or a possible fix other than the generic ones you find when doing a google search seeing as I see so many Youtube videos of this exact problem. I guess I'll look elsewhere. Thanks

@KnightRider1982 I’m not offended. I did do research and I’m doing more now . I wasn’t trying to be rude either I was just looking for more technical resolutions than trying a completely different Xbox lol. I thanked you for your help though and I honestly thought you were joking or messing with me since that’s like trying a different car to see if your brakes still aren’t working. I understand when typing it can be difficult to understand people’s intent. I believe I thanked you several times an I am appreciative for any and all help . Wasn’t trying to offend you which I obviously did. If I typed something in a way that It seemed rude I blame it on lack of sleep as I spent the last few days in classes getting certified in fiber optics. Sorry!

@Tasuki I wasn’t trying to be. If I was I apologize. I apparently took comments the wrong way as well.

First off, I live in a home where as a grown person with children I have had to purchase multiple XSX consoles and one SX so that is saying I have three separate XBOX SERIES X and one Xbox Series S
The XBOXSERIESX one is connected to an LGC2 and runs at 4K 120HZ
The others are just connected to a tv that can only do 4K 60HZ and also has to have Dolby Vision off unlike the LGC2 that has literally everything on in the settings menu of the video and audio sections of the XSX
The series S is connected to a TV that does 1080p

I am confounded that your games won’t even load or are constantly crashing….on all the systems mentioned I’ve never had over heating; constant crashing or games not leading to being loaded at all after being installed both digitally and on XSX sometimes via disc install.

In your console if you go to internet settings check your connection
Make sure if you have 5G WiFi you are connected to that version of your WiFi and not the 2.4 one or whatever it is; or if you plug into Ethernet or whatever check that too…
If you’re playing an old game or even a new one let’s say Fallout 3 and Fallout 4
One made for 360 one made for SX
Sadly sometimes like many other games they tend to crash…its def more common now in modern games and systems than ever before SO SAVE SAVE SAVE

BUT my friend….sometimes if you are playing digitally or in disc and lets say while you’re playing you’ve got a game installing it will totally cause some crashes sometimes in games while playing

Also….if your screen is going black and the console is on you might have the wrong settings on your TV and XBOX tbh as in you’ve changed something and you need to just set it back ….for example some people claim you need to switch the video fidelity to 10 bit and then they get black screens…the Xbox is smart enough to know what to do…most of the time

If you’ve got slow internet maybe?

But if you have a receipt and it’s not been 15 days and you got the box I’d return it maybe you have a bad Xbox….unlikely…but it does happen
