Topic: Recommend an RPG

Hello.

Currently looking for something new to sink my teeth into, specifically an RPG. Massive Zelda fan but looking for something on my Series S. I can’t pretend I’ve got a bucket load of spare time (kids…) to commit so ideally it’ll be something that I can pick up easy enough from where I last left it. I’ve read a few Elden ring reviews but haven’t committed to it yet as not sure how practical a game it is to pick up in fits and spurts.

I’m a fully paid up member of GP but not adverse to dipping into my wallet if there’s a really good suggestion that isn’t on there!

Anything you’d recommend or steer clear of?

Death's Door and Tunic. Both are Zelda inspired, short by full blown RPG standards and available on GP. My work here is done.

I'd echo the above. Took a bit to get into it but thoroughly enjoyed it.

It's old, but Jade Empire is a great RPG, classic Bioware.

@Krzzystuff Agreed mate, one of the very rare occasions that I pre-ordered a game. Even bought it again on PS. Absolute gem!

Thanks for the recommendations! Should keep me busy for a while. I picked up the outer worlds for the Switch last year but the horrendous load times put me off it, will get that lined up next I think.

I’ve went with Tunic to begin with, enjoying it so far. Took me a little while to get over the fact that the weapon/item descriptions are complete nonsense! Still, gives you a great excuse to lob a few sticks of dynamite around to see what they do.

As someone with kids as well, I think Elden Ring is a great game to pick up in fits and spurts. Most RPGs (especially JRPGs) are hard for me to play nowadays because I put them down for too long and forget what's going on or what I was doing. Elden Ring may have really buried and deep lore, but the basics of the story related to gameplay are pretty easy to follow. You may not always know why, but where you're supposed to be going to advance the story is always pretty clear. You also may not know how you're supposed to get to the next area, but that's where checking a guide when you get stuck comes in handy.

It's also a game where you feel like you can get something done in a short game session. You can set goals for yourself like exploring a portion of the map, attempting a dungeon boss, leveling once, or upgrading a weapon.

A lot of what makes the game difficult to play is not how long it takes and remembering what you're supposed to be doing, but just getting good at playing and learning the game logic. If you're good and know how to traverse the game efficiently, you can beat the game in a handful of hours. On my 2nd NG+, I think it took me 3 hours to clear the critical path start to finish.

Elder Scroll series
Fallout series
Mass Effect Legendary Edition
Witcher 3 Wild Hunt GoTY Edition (if you haven't played this one, its very highly recommended)
Assassins Creed Odyssey / Valhalla
Red Dead Redemption 2
Cyberpunk 2077 (now its optimised for series S / X. Worth giving it a go)

As for Tunic, that is not an RPG; its more a Zelda-style adventure exploration.

Try out Scarlet Nexus.I have played it for around 10 hours and i think it deserves somebody's attention. Also, think about Final Fantasy The Zodiac Age.The latter is a game i am going to play the next days and i consider it being top-class RPG.Finally, you said you had a Nintendo Switch right? You can find good rpg's there also like Fire emblem.I am about 20 hours on it and i could say that it is complex and rather interesting
