Since I just finished one of my games, it's perfect timing to fire up spyro. Hopefully i can complete before indy comes out, because I'm pretty much dropping everything when it does.
Played through a couple levels to 100% so far. Controls take some getting used to, but the game looks beautiful. Like I may have mentioned a time or two in the past, I may have played this back during the ps1 era, but I don't remember much about it. Is the overall goal to free dragons? And collect gems? I'm guessing at some point you gain new abilities too?
@NintendoByNature if I remember correctly you get to fly freely (like in the bonus stages) at some point but from what I have played so far it may well be by finishing the game first
So I have played about 2h the other day and well the only good thing I can say about it is that in that period of time I accomplished a 57% completion rate and therefore I should be able to see all stages in another hour or so... Because I cannot thing about another praise for it... It is the most dull experience in gaming I had in many many years. The fact your only objective is to find diamonds and dragons is repetitive and boring, the gameplay is both floaty and non responsive and I cannot understand how a game in the last 15 years still has mandatory reversed flying controls!!!!!! I refuse to play the flying special stages because of it. I may finish it because it is so short but I am definitely not looking forward to play it again I am afraid (p.s: I would be pissed if I bought this game back in the day for more than a fiver)
@Balta666 ok sounds good. I get your criticisms. Lots of 3d platformers back in the 90s were pretty bland by today's standards. That's why I can't understand the flack mario 64 gets. It still holds up tremendously well, even by today's standards. The camera is finicky, sure, but the actual gameplay is one of the best out there, and it was pretty much the first to do it.
@NintendoByNature for sure about SM64. To me it was the first 100/100 game ever made and always fun to go back. I always miss when 3d platformers do not give you interesting objectives so you can go and explore.
@Balta666 absolutely. It's on an island of its own for that time period. There's no other 3d platformer of that time that can stand toe to toe, and that's including the crash games, banjo, etc. Crash is a lite 3d platformer but still.
I've bought this for my wife a few weeks ago when it was on sale and I've never played it before. I started it back when I bought it and I played a bit yesterday. It's a fun game with some frustrations and some of the levels are bloody hard, especially for a kids game. I've just started the third area so I'm not sure how far through the game I am. I got the trilogy pack so I'm playng the first game.
@nomither6 I've played it on original hardware and the 3D collection for switch only. I'd probably say playing with an actual N64 controller makes it all the better but a modern controller is fine too.
@nomither6 like @NintendoByNature mentioned the gameplay is better suited to the N64 controller (specially the analogue 8 direction only inputs) but the remaster on switch (as long as you have it already) is a good remaster
@Balta666@NintendoByNature ok , looks like buying a wireless n64 controller & switch version should do it then. i have a n64 lying around but i dont even wanna attempt to find the cords for it and look up the price for the original mario 64 cartridge 😬
