Hi all. My name is Robert. I had my 30th birthday on the 21st of January and was at the mall with my family.
I went to eb games (a new zealand gaming outlet in the mall) for a look around. To my suprise the guy working said he had an xbox series x in stock.
So i decided to treat myself and buy it. This was meant to be my last console for a long time seeing as im 30 now. Wanted to mainly for multiplat games.

So i get the xbox home and set it up. All good so far. Then i connect to the internet and check my speeds.
i have fibre internet (wired). The xbox series x download was very slow compared to my pc. Sometimes its as low as 1Mbs if that. Some times its over that like 150 etc (tried wireless and wired) So that was dissapointing. I am aware that it could be a setting on the modem like a port being throttled or something, which is a bummer becuase i flat with a couple and dont really have access to the modem.

On top of that. The Main issue i am having is that the games i tested dont seem to run well at all. As i said earlier i got xbox series x mainly for multiplat games. I was expecting the to run way better that my computer which is a 1080 graphics card 16gbRAM Intel core [email protected]. I have tried ghost recon wildlands which ran very poorly as well as skyrim which ran soo bad (low frame rate) that it was unplayable for me, even with the console 60fps patch. I also tried red dead 2 online which seemed kinda smooth. The only game ive got to run well atm was the witcher3.

I game on a monitor which is 1920x 1080 resolution. Why are my multi plat games running soo poorly? I am getting 59 fps in apex legends. 59!!!!!!! What is the point in paying 800dollars to get a console that runs games at 59fps and even worse in skyrims case and ghost recon. Is it because my monitor? Did i buy a faulty product? ( i am a bit suspicious because this was one of the only ones in stock). I rang the store back and they said they wont refund me because its been used, and i am scared to sell it second hand because i am concerned its faulty and i dont want to sell a faulty product.
Any advice would be very much aprreciated as i feel i just wasted 799$

Thankyou!

@robwarrior1 Hi there. The modem thing is kind of a bummer, because you do need to make sure that certain ports are open. If you can somehow gain access to the routers/modems IP address, then you should make sure that the following ports are open for both Xbox Live and optimal connections:

Xbox Live:

TCP 3074
UDP 3074
UDP 88

Extra ports:

TCP 80
TCP 53
UDP 53
UDP 500
UDP 3544
UDP 4500

In most modern modems, there's already a standard setting for various game consoles, so then it should already be pre-configured, but if not, then these are the ones to add.

Other than that, here's a few other things that you can try, with the last link being an example of things you can try in regards to slow games:

I hope that there's a solution in there for you.

I would be really suspicious if what you say is true. First off you can't but PS5 or Xbox Series in stores they are all online. So either it was a returned system that was faulty or the employee is a scalper.
