I am really looking forward to the release of Goldeneye on Xbox (Series X)
I am hoping for a December release at the very latest.
When do you think it will be released and why?

Me too! Can't wait for this long awaited re-release!

I think December is a good guess.

I guess it will be sometime between November and December, because (and I'll asume that the Xbox and NSO version will arrive on the same date) Nintendo will take the game as a "hostage" to boost/keep their NSO suscriptions. IIRC, the NSO Expansion Pack is close to its first anniversary, so for many people (me included) it is almost renewal time.

I sure hope it'll arrive in 2022.

Nintendo skipped September completely for N64 games (last one was Wave Race 64 on August 19th) so it feels that there'll be one in early October to make up for none in September. With the 60th anniversary of the Bond films tomorrow (Dr. No launched October 5th 1962 in the UK), maybe a release or release date announcement in around 5 hours (Nintendo usually announces NSO release dates at 2am UK time)?

In any case I feel October is most likely if this year. The Japan NSO announcement did mention 2023 though so it may Microsoft may be saving it for next year to give the appearance of a stable XGS lineup like for example:

  • January - Nothing
  • February - Goldeneye
  • March - Redfall
  • April - Forza Motorsport
  • May - Minecraft Legends
  • June - Starfield

@Grumblevolcano Thanks for replying, February seems like such a long time away.
Worth waiting for anyway, can't wait.

I recently read a news article (I lost the link, sadly) that says the release date will depend on how much time the devs will take to remaster the game. So, it seems (according to that article) that the game will be released in 2023.

So...anyone knows if this is true and the remaster isn't done yet?

But like @species8472 said, it doesn't matter, I can wait some more time!

Pilotwings 64 was announced for NSO Expansion Pack launching October 13th so 2023 for Goldeneye seems likely.

@Grumblevolcano Most probably.

Yesterday, I saw the listing of upcoming games in the NSO app on the Switch and it listed Pilotwings, the Mario Party and Pokemon games and the last one is Goldeneye. So yeah, it seems likely that it will be 2023.

If we take that listing into account, and considering one game a month (or less, like now) maybe Goldeneye will see the light of day in midyear, maybe?

There is new hope for Goldeneye this year, Mario Party 1+2 are both releasing on NSO Expansion Pack on November 2nd which leaves December as either a surprise like Goldeneye or nothing:

Will the New Zealand trick work for this one?

@Casco I Do not think so. Is it even listed on the store yet?

@SoggyY0JIMBO Not, is it not.

I think it won't be listed as a such. Instead, methinks, it will be as an update for the Rare Replay collection. And maybe as a standalone Game Pass title, but it won't be listed to buy it "separately".

Played several hours of this last night with my son and we had a blast. I will admit this game hasn't aged well especially the single-player. I found single-player frustrating at times mainly like guards can see you clear across the map and set of alarms, they would shoot at you from across the map when you couldn't even see them but they can see you. The escort mission. I know this is how games were done back then either due to technical limitations or just didn't know any better and playing it back then we managed these little things. But playing FPS games like CoD, Gears, Borderlands etc has evolved my skills for FPS and those skills just don't work well on GoldenEye.

However Multiplayer is still a blast my son and I had so much fun and I am glad that still plays well. Might not go back to single-player mode again, but I would definitely be playing some more multiplayer especially when I have the guys from work over.

Does anyone think that Xbox will also finally release the xbox arcade 2008 remastered version that looks amazing?

@BeyondKnight I would sooner expect them to release the GoldenEye Reloaded game sooner then the Xbox Arcade remake.

@BeyondKnight Fortunately, it doesn't depend on Nintendo anymore, Nintendo stopped the remaster in 2008 according to some Rare developers when Nintendo had the publishing rights of the original game, that expired in 2017 as I have been saying for years, and this is why the game can be published by Xbox Game Studios now.

The reason why Rare's remaster that is a million times better than Code Mystics' indifferently emulated version hasn't been officially released yet is a mystery but it's up to the James Bond IP owners, the Goldeneye film rights owners and Rare/Microsoft. It's Nintendo that needed permission from Rare to include the game in Switch Online, same for Banjo-Kazooie in Super Smash Bros. and Nintendo Online.
