Topic: Sharing game Pass across 2 consoles

Hi

I have a series X arriving in a few days, I've given my XB1 to my son and he uses it on my account, I pay for game Pass ultimate.

My question is, when my X console arrives will I need to create a brand new account for myself and pay for gamepass again for myself, or is there a way of creating a sub account for my son so that I can keep my original username and friends list etc on the new console?

And how about gamepass? How do we share the account to save me paying for a 2nd subscription?

Any guidance really appreciated.

As I understand it... You need to make a new unrelated account for your son on the Xbox they will be using.

Sign in with your account on your new Xbox.

Sign back in with your account on your son's Xbox and change it to your "Home" console.

I think you can delete your account off your son's Xbox at this point and it will still remain your accounts "home" Xbox - not sure about this step.

Basically your son will access all of your games/subs with his new account on his Xbox (which is your home Xbox). You will have to be logged in with your gamertag on your Xbox when you use yours.

If you change your Xbox to your "home" Xbox after you've done all this then your son will lose access to your account's games and subs.

Check what I've said against the link I've provided though. I haven't actually done this myself but am planning to do it for my brother at some point soon!

Thanks so much for taking the time to explain that, it's exactly what I needed.

It makes sense what you've described and I'll give it a go and cuss you savagely if it doesn't work 😉

Joking obviously, thanks again.

@Croftona7 haha no worries, hopefully it works. Do it all when you get your new Xbox though. I have a feeling that setting up a new Xbox always sets it as your "home" Xbox but I am not sure!

I think there's a yearly limit of 5 "home" Xbox changes too. Might be worth searching "game sharing Xbox" on Google and checking out some guides/Reddit posts for info posted by people who have actually done it before

This will be so much easier if/when they do the family plan like they were thinking.

So I got my series X and followed the steps described above, both myself and my son can access gamepass on our respective consoles, but it seems we can't both play a gamepass game at the same time as each other, does anyone know if that's the case or have I maybe not done one of the steps correctly?

Hos xbox is my home xbox, my new xbox has not been set as the home xbox.

I've left my account on his xbox, could that be why we can't both play games at the same time, do I HAVE to delete my account from his xbox?

Cheers

@Croftona7 I am not sure at this point to be honest!

Hopefully somebody else with experience of it wil chip in here.

I'm glad you've had some success though!

Edit:

Had a quick look on Reddit, make sure your son is signed into his own Xbox profile and not yours and see if that helps

Really appreciate you trying to help, it's driving me mad at this point though... Every time I'm using my xbox and my son tries to play any gamepass game on his xbox, he gets a message saying that he can't play because 'xbox series x is currently using gamepass'. So I have to stop playing at my house so he can play at his house.

Everyone else seems to have no issues sharing their gamepass subscription so I don't know why this is proving so difficult for me!

@Croftona7 So I have had this problem as well. You cannot access games at the same time that are on Gamepass or that you own. In order to access it you would have to by a other copy.

For example I have Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War that I bought on my account digitally. If I am signed in on my Series X someone else cannot access Cold War on the Series S or any other game tied to the account that's being used on the Series X.

This is where the family plan that MS is talking about would come in handy if the decide to implement it.

@Croftona7 let us know how you get on with this in the end. I was gonna do the same for my bro but I'm having second thoughts if it means only one of us will be limited to playing any GP game.

I'd be ok if we could play different GP games, like if I wanted to play Yakuza and he wanted to play Forza or something

I get that error message when I swap from playing on the cloud to console. It's not a massive problem for me though because its only me playing at the moment

I've got it working now, my sons xbox was set to sign in automatically using my account, which is why we couldn't both play at the same time.

Since I've made him sign in with his own account then we've both been able to use gamepass independently with no issues.

So your original instructions were correct, thank you.

@Croftona7 brilliant, great to hear it! Thanks for the updates and the helpful final tip. Hopefully I'll sort out my loaner One X for my brother soon!
