Talking Point: Exactly 13 Years Later, How Are You Feeling About Halo 4 These Days?

If it wasn't a 'Halo' game, maybe I'd score it at a 6 at most, but considering the history and predecessors, it was a big disappointment and left me very concerned about the future of the IP and 343 Studio's.

Been a long time but I remember it being great. Not as strong as the original trilogy but I thought it was just as good, if not better, than Reach. But it came out back when I was entering high school and I’m 28 now, so I need to replay it to give a better answer!

I really enjoyed the game, and it shines on the harder difficulties. I think a lot of people are upset due to the inclusion of a new enemy type, but you couldn't go through an entire new trilogy (which is was initially intended to be) without innovating to some extent.

Regardless, the Prometheans were a far better inclusion in Halo, than the robots were in Gears of War 4!

Anyway, I gave it a 9/10, though I am only speaking to the campaign as I don't play the multiplayer these days.

Truthfully though, the game was much better than Halo 5 was, though I enjoyed Infinite pretty much the most of all of the mainline series, though both Reach and ODST were also standouts in the franchise for me...

Easily the worst Halo game. Promethians were awful new enemies, & old enemies like Elites had far less good AI which make them boring to fight.
Story was poor too.
343 was never given the time with Halo 4 & 5 to make a good game…. and when they were given a lot of time with infinite, they still couldn’t make a good game.

As somebody who's been with the series since Day 1, I give it 9/10. It didn't surpass Halo 2 or Combat Evolved (nothing ever will), but it definitely lands a nice 3rd place spot for me thanks to the fantastic writing that finally brought in the lore from the novels and what ended up being my favorite visual aesthetic in the series. The sound work and musical composition were a bit lacking and I hate that they cancelled S2 of Spartan Ops and killed the plot with a crappy comic and a quick moment in the beginning of Halo 5, but otherwise I loved everything about H4.

The Didact didn't get enough screentime to really make a great villain, either, but he was intended to be a threat throughout the trilogy and their wussing out with Halo 5's direction change is more at fault than H4 not writing him well. I also wish Jul 'Mdama had been given more screentime and played some kind of role in the main campaign, but I get he was supposed to be the main antagonist of the S-Ops mode.

It would be neat if they went back in a remake and added the H5 Soldier units and a couple other original units to mix up the dynamic a bit, as well.

The campaign was excellent, although it felt like a step back from Halo 3 and Halo Reach. Of course, for me, those were the shooters with the best campaigns I had ever played, so the bar was set very high.

It was good although the story was rather jarring. Hated Guardians, love Infinite.

Good game. Story beats felt unfinished/unpolished, but it had a lot of great stuff going for it too.

Halo games never had a strong/particularly coherent narrative, they really need to hire good writers going forward. That said, I've played them all since day one, way back in erm, 2001? The gunplay and AI on heroic were, and still are, what sets them apart from most run of the mill shooters. Halo 4 was a decent first effort from 343 all things considered.

I personally really like Halo 4. It's not as excellent as the Bungie developed Halo games, but it's still a very good Halo game. I liked the story, especially the dynamic between Cortana and the Master Chief. Love the graphics and visuals, hard to believe the Xbox 360 coupd render that. The multiplayer was also quite decent, and spec ops felt like a bonus on top. The Prometheans aren't as interesting as the Flood, that side of Halo felt more like a downgrade.

I loved Halo 5's multiplayer, especially that large-scale Warzone mode, but the story campaign was rather forgettable.

I always liked halo 4. Excellent game, 9/10.

Amazing visuals for its time and personally my favourite main menu theme but outside of that, it’s a weak Halo entry (which is why I voted 7/10).

I thought it was excellent. I like pretty much all the halo games. I also thought Infinite was excellent. I think multiplayer is dull in all it's forms, so maybe I'm not the best opinion on it. I keep hearing about how these games failed because of their multiplayer and I just roll my eyes.

I went 6 wernt bad but compared to the rest was dog poo 1st 2 and reach were top tier what happened 😭 didn't like the enemies you fight on 4 and 5 think it was those robot things forgot what they even called. Prerfered fighting elites etc over brutes too

There has never been a bad Halo game. Halo 4, for me, was a solid 10/10.

I never played the campaign but Halo 4 was my first FPS multiplayer, so it has a special place in my heart.

Incredible graphics for 360

Story was terrible, Cortana looked weird, multiplayer was barely Halo. 3/10 and only that high because of the graphics.

This is not a Bungie game. I felt it instantly — the new weapons and enemies just don’t feel right somehow. But it’s not a bad game overall, I’d give it a 6 out of 10.

I recall thinking it was decent back when I played through it.
I guess I would give it a 7 out of 10.
Halo 5 was much more enjoyable for me.

Halo's 343 era is much maligned but while not as good as the Bungie era, 4, 5 and 6 are 8/10's, which is better than most games 👍

I give it an 8/10. I thought it was a pretty good first try from former 343 now Halo Studios.
Really enjoyed the visuals, amazing for an 360 game, the characters and narrative.
Gameplay was fine, but not quite there yet.
Bungie kinda nailed it on their first try though.
Not a big multiplayer guy, so can´t say anything about it.
As a for the campaign, very solid entry....... And then they completely fumbled with Halo 5 Guardians. Oh well.

This is always very unpopular opinion.

But I still stand firm that Halo 4 multiplayer was the absolute best out all them and it is not even close the one with most amount of hours I spent in any Halo multiplayer.

It is also important, full disclosure, I absolutely detest any and all Call of Duty multiplayer.

I felt the story line with Cortana deteriorating was OK, but I did not like that she appearred to die in the game. To me Cortana and Master Chief have been hand and hand in the series. Having her separate from Master Chief I feel was not all that great.

The gameplay itself was fine but the story brought the game down in my eyes.

Halo 4 was an ambitious project and one of the most visually stunning games on the Xbox 360. However, I didn’t like the idea of unraveling the Forerunners. Around this time, the series also began paying unusual attention to the depiction of women, which I felt diminished its military tone.
