Re: Former Xbox Studio Wins 'Game Of The Year' At Games For Change 2026

@RiverGenie lol are you forgetting that Microsoft owned studios were doing absolutely nothing once MS's eyes focused on acquiring ABK.

You don't find it weird that a corporation that owns the most game studios out of the three console competitors somehow wasn't able to compete? If they were churning out games, like they should have been once the Bethesda deal was completed, they either wouldn't have been approved to acquire ABK or, more likely, they would have had to spend a lot more money under the table and probably grease a few more palms as well.

As soon as ABK deal completes, they're suddenly announcing game release dates from the previously owned studios or shadow dropping games they didn't care about like Hi-Fi Rush to Game Pass.

Microsoft owned more game studios than either Nintendo or Sony at that point. But their whole reason for acquiring ABK was so they 'would be able to compete'. That's how bad they wanted to close that deal. Stalled all output while they had a few finished games ready to shadow drop and quite a few release dates for the games they think will draw the most gamers to Xbox for Game Pass or draw new gamers to the platform and actually purchase the games once they closed the deal.

And it all still backfired and blew up in their faces. There was no sudden spike in Xbox console sales. The majority of their install base continued to just rent the games through Game Pass. So they panicked and said no more exclusives (with the idea to pull the plug down the line more than likely, knowing MS, to draw gamers to Xbox). But then that backfired too as their small install base rightfully complained about the lack of exclusives. Excluding the small vocal minority of MS bootlickers that said exclusives were bad and this was great for Xbox. Amazing how quiet those particular ones are.

So Microsoft pulled the plug way earlier than they would have and now most of their gamss are exclusive again.
