Even in light of recent studio closures, lay-offs, cancelled projects and throwing a few studios to the wind to survive on their own, I believe Microsoft's gaming division will continue to grow and that is a good thing - for us gamers anyway.
Hardware is the sticking point, not in terms of capability, but in terms of where MS want to position themselves, and I firmly believe Helix is the make or break moment.
Maybe they should be looking at Nintendo more closely? The big N is obviously doing something right.
Yes the talk of other store fronts has died down a touch since Asha took hold of the reins, which says to me that "Helix will play PC games" refers only to the Windows Store.
Now if, like yourself, you want more Xbox than PC this is a good thing. Contrary to the narrative, PC and consoles are very different markets. Game consoles live and die on how many units get into people's homes.
Some weird Frankenstein's Monster hybrid is going to be a tough sell to the mass market. Confusing, expensive, possibly the plug pulled quite early on if Nadella thinks "Yeah, this isn't working"
Microsoft's problem, as I see it, is that they're not content with just being in the console market, supported by a hugely loyal fanbase, they want to dominate it, but they have no idea how.
Xbox has been a powerhouse in console gamming since the release of the OG Xbox. Great systems, great interface, great games. Why can't they just keep doing that as opposed to just chucking everything at the Xbox brand hoping something will stick to put them on top?
"Here's our new Xbox. It kicks ass! Here's some great games! It won't cost you an arm and a leg! Oh, and you can carry everything across! Winner!"
They didn't like what they seen obviously, and it's progress was probably far too slow for them to feel confident investing into the project further
Do we have any citation from Sony to conform or dismiss this? I haven't seen anything, (I may have missed it), but until there's an official statement from Sony it's pure guess work as to why they walked away.
if helix will have its own os closer to xbox os or if they somehow allow PC games via xbox OS
I do believe that is entire possible with Windows Store, but I remain unconvinced about Steam and Epic on Helix if the OS leans more toward Xbox than PC. It's a lot more complicated than simply adding a "Steam App"; there's a lot of parameters to consider.
GOG? That's definitely off the table due to the DRM policy. I really cannot envisage a scenario where Microsoft will allow offline installers, thus handing over direct control to the end-user. It goes against the entire nature of the closed, tightly controlled ecosystem that comes with, and has always been the case, with game consoles.
Personally I prefer the freedom PC gaming offers, but I've been doing it for years, right back to the 90s when it really was a ball-ache at times gaming on PC.
Fair enough. To be honest I've little interest in any given console manufacturers financials. It's not my fight. I'm not a businessman and I'm not a shareholder. I'm semi-retired.
My only interest is in great video games - and I've got plenty of those. 😊
Let's be honest, though, it's just another reskin of a genre we've seen a hundred times over. The formula has grown stale.
The AAA industry needs new ideas, not the same tired games held up by recognisable characters whose only goal is to move forward while beating the crap out of the same old disposable bad guys in all too familiar environments.
While I don't know what the state of their financials are, (and honestly, I'm not inclined to research them), Sony has more than just PlayStation, so I'd be very surprised if they're struggling to a point where the company's future is uncertain.
That being said, stranger things have happened at sea.

Wouldn't that be nice?

However, if Helix turns out to be just a PC with xbox logo I will be forced to go with ps6
Why's that? Genuinely curious.
As with consoles there's also a lot to love about PC gaming. However, I very much doubt Helix will be a pure PC experience.
Re: Xbox Achievement Record Smashed As Brazilian Player Reaches 10 Million Gamerscore
I clearly remember the early days of achievement hunting, as a friendly competition between friends, with the 360.
The novelty soon wore off though, so I stopped looking.
I've two sperate accounts now. My original 360 account (37k rounded down) and my Series X/PC one (13k rounded up).

Wolverine, is in the 70's over at Metacritic

Could end being a timed exclusive. That's certainly a possibility.

Xbox could certainly do with some more positive direction, so yes, this is good news.
