For me, Xbox controllers having replaceable batteries is a big reason why I prefer them over the competition. As a collector of old consoles, it's annoying that none of my PlayStation controllers have decent battery life unless I purchase replacement parts from eBay.
@Fiendish-Beaver - I agree, either scrapping the day one releases or bringing in a more expensive tier is probably what they should do, but doing either of these will admit that their current business model doesn't work.
Realistically, I can't see them pedalling back on the day one releases as it's essentially become their primary business model, but I can absolutely see them raising the price quite significantly over time.
Putting the "is it profitable?" question aside, I think it's pretty obvious at this point that Game Pass is a service that offers incredible value to consumers and gives smaller developers a better chance of recouping their development costs.
That said, to me, it's also pretty obvious that most larger titles would benefit from selling their games at full price and joining Game Pass when sales figures start to dry up months later. Launching your product into Game Pass on day one is simply caniblising your potential revenue.
