'It Would Make Folks Happy' - Larian Exec On Why Baldur's Gate 3 Now Supports Xbox Play Anywhere

Xbox really should highlight this feature more , and others as well. Xbox objectively has many advantages that simply don’t exist in other ecosystems. Not only Play Anywhere, but also free cloud saves (while paid on other platforms), “stream your own game,” and Game Pass — which doesn’t really have an equivalent in terms of game catalog — and normally also a multi‑store system with Helix.

Glad to see Larian confirming that Xbox Play Anywhere is a major strength of the Xbox ecosystem . I remember they weren’t very fair to the Xbox Series S at the time, even though they ultimately did manage to bring the game to the console. (Surprising that the game isn’t coming to the Switch 2, by the way.)

You know what else would make folks happy, and make a bigger impact than XPA? Putting the game on gamepass.

Now port BG3 to Switch 2 as well, you cowards!

(Obviously I’m joking, though I’d like an excuse to buy this game on yet another platform as well!)

A feature I will never use lol. If it's not a home console I don't want it.

I don't buy games unless they are Play Anywhere and ALWAYS engage that filter option on ALL Store searches, sales etc to filter out all the games that don't support it.

I don't know that I will upgrade to an Xbox Helix Console, but I have Gaming PC Laptops and Handheld devices so I can always carry my Digital Library forward and play on PC.

Even with the occasional discounts the game is still too expensive for me but at least we’re now getting two versions for the price of one which is great.

Yeah it’s pretty cool you can play handheld if you have solid internet connection; I think everyone should just let Nintendo do handhelds since they’re catering to babies and let the grown ups keep the big consoles we have to put on the entertainment stand 🙈

@dskatter I think BG3 will get the Skyrim experience and will definitely land on that one day just you wait; maybe your words have started the tumble towards that release itself D20?

but I got BF3 for half off last year on the Microsoft store it’s just a matter of time before you can get it on sale I bet again: the games rather great so paying anything above $20 for the content still should be deemed ok

@dskatter I’ll “joke” with you together, as I too would love to get this on Switch 2 even though I’ve got copies on Xbox and Steam Deck. This would be a day one buy the moment they toss it on S2. Truly hope something can happen with it in the future!

When it comes to portable play, I just prefer my Switch 2 over my Steam Deck.

RDR2, and Fallen Order/Jedi Survivor are also on my S2 wishlist for some point even though I own them either on Xbox or Steam (or both).

@LordHrivnasty That was almost 3 years ago, a lot can change in that time such as sales slowing down. I know I'm not paying almost $70 CAD for a 3 year old game.

Just because you want it on gamepass doesn’t mean it makes financial sense for THEM.

@dskatter I'm more than happy to wait for it to come to gamepass, or drop to the same price as a month or two of gamepass. I basically forgot the game even existed until this announcement.

So is there a way to use mouse and keyboard with my existing copy yet ? I don’t think cross over mac or Xbox Cloud would do it right? (The first because of the UWP thing the game is the highest level of supported.) I don’t have a gaming PC and this is pretty much the only game I want to play in this manner.
