Xbox Announces Backwards Compatibility For PC, First Four Games Revealed

The rumours were true! Xbox has announced today that backwards compatibility for original Xbox games is officially coming to PC, starting with four titles that are rolling out immediately.

Those four games are as follows:

Xbox says the first four games are part of a "broader effort to preserve XBOX games from the past and bring them to PC over time", and they're adding new features including up to 4x resolution upscaling, VSync support, anisotropic filtering, enhanced anti-aliasing, and even the arrival of Xbox achievements later this year.

If you already own any of these games (digitally) or have access through Xbox Game Pass, you'll be able to start playing them on PC as soon as they go live, and they're all getting both Xbox Play Anywhere and Xbox Cloud Gaming support.

The system requirements for playing backwards compatibility titles on PC are as follows:

Minimum system requirements:

  • GPU: Nvidia GTX 950 or AMD Radeon RX 550 or Intel UHD 770 or Intel Arc A310
  • CPU: Min 4 Cores Intel Core i3-8100 or AMD Ryzen 3 1200 or AMD Ryzen™ Z2 A Processor
  • RAM: 8GB
  • OS: Windows 11
  • Drivers and Versions: Latest Version as of January 2026

Recommended specifications:

  • GPU: Radeon RX 68005 or Nvidia GTX 1070 Ti or Intel Arc A770

While this first batch of four games is based around the original Xbox, it does sound like we might get some Xbox 360 titles in the future as well, as the announcement makes reference to "classic XBOX games from the past" rather than anything specific.

It's going to be interesting to see what else comes along in the coming months, and we're absolutely stoked to try all of these classic Xbox games on PC for the first time. What an announcement!
