The big news of the day is undoubtedly that Xbox is bringing backwards compatibility to PC, but even if you're someone who only plays back compat titles on consoles, you might be pleased to hear about plans for new Xbox achievements.
You're probably aware that original Xbox games have never supported achievements since they arrived on the backwards compatibility program a decade ago, but that's about to change. Microsoft says that "select" titles from the original Xbox lineup will add achievements later this year, including the four that were announced for PC today - Blinx, Fuzion Frenzy, Crimson Skies and Conker.
"We plan to add even more features to XBOX Backward Compatibility games in the future. I’m excited to share that later this year we will be bringing one of the top fan-requested features to select original XBOX games on both console and PC: Achievements. The first four games releasing in preview today will be updated to include Achievements in the coming months."
It's interesting that the announcement mentions "even more features for XBOX Backwards Compatibility games in the future" as well - here's hoping it means extra goodies for console players as well as PC ones!
Anyway, this is really cool. Xbox backwards compatibility has been one of the most celebrated features of the past 10 years for the brand, and it's great to see they're still taking it seriously by not just supporting these games, but actually adding new features to make them better. Long may it continue!
