Talking Point: What Do You Think Of The New 'Poster' Artwork On Xbox?

I'll try this out tonight and see which one is best!

I like it better.

Nearly every major movie/tv streaming service I’m subscribed to has absolutely butchered their UI’s over the past year or two. They don’t seem to understand we want more information at a glance, not less. Between GIGANTIC TILES THAT TAKE UP SO MUCH SCREEN REAL ESTATE YOU CAN ONLY SEE ONE OR TWO TITLES AT A TIME and things like forced autoplaying previews that are a horrendous distraction while you’re trying to browse, these companies are slaughtering perfectly serviceable user interfaces.

I mention the above only to draw attention to the fact that one has to tread a fine line between a good UI and one that gets driven into the ground. The new poster style layout on Xbox treads that line well. It is technically less info in that you don’t see as many games onscreen at once, but it isn’t such a diminished amount that it really makes a difference. It’s cleaner, arguably more legible, and importantly still provides plenty of info at a glance. I think they’ve done a good job with the redesign. Best scenario is still providing access to either layout, as is always the case with these types of things.

I prefer the squares because a lot of covers are cropped pretty bad.

A good number look good though, some 3rd party publishers updated their covers too, but I was specifically surprised by Wales Interactive. They publish and develop a lot of FMV games, and their poster covers are great.

It was nice to see that a small publisher took the effort of making sure their games looked great.

Love the new poster look. Never going back to square.

I like both. But this was a nice update. The whole update was good. Hope they continue with these.

The posters for Xbox and Xbox 360 games have a thick black bar at the bottom. Since I don't sort my games by size, that black bar has nothing covering it and oddly stands out. If they fix that, I would start using the posters with the medium size, until them I will stick to large size tiles.

Fair play, the poster artwork looks way nicer than the old square tiles.

Or they would if it weren't for that horrendous white background. Is that screenshot from your console @FraserG? Dark theme or nothing, mate.

I like the poster one after checking them out it shows slightly more of the picture and of course it's different from what we have always had so it would look nicer or at least positively in most people's eyes!

@FraserG I'll let it slide this one time, but you're on thin ice.

@FraserG That's I hell of a lot of memory free a lot more than I actually have with a 1tb series x and 512gb storage card.
But you probably need a lot of space on your Xbox because of your job.

It looks nice but the squares allow more room.

I'm completely indifferent to this.

@betterthings The images themselves contain this blank bar- this can be verified by downloading the box art from any (OG or 360 game) store page . It's a weird little quirk that has been around for years, and it's unfortunate that this shows up in the dashboard. Sounds like a dealbreaker, at least for now!
