Ex-Forza Horizon Director Would Like To Make Xbox's Next Halo 1

Former Playground Games and Forza Horizon veteran Mike Brown has been hard at work on his own open-world driving game, Clutch, and it seems as though he'd like a stab at an open-world Halo game next.

In a podcast with MinnMax's Ben Hanson, Brown discusses his departure from Playground Games and Xbox, as well as what it's been like founding his own studio, Maverick Games, back in 2022. As the conversation begins to wind down, It's revealed that Brown is a huge Halo fan, who jokingly states "it's a hard life being a Halo fan".

Amidst the giggles, Hanson puts Brown on the spot, asking what he'd do if Xbox approached him to make the next Halo game. Clutch's Art Director Ben Penrose jests back a simple "put cars in it" with Brown adding the idea of "licensed cars" racing around "a massive Halo ring".

Of course, this is all just a bit of bants between the three, but we couldn't help noticing a hint of genuine interest in Brown's potential pitch to Xbox Boss Asha Sharma. Who knows, if Clutch proves to be a success, Brown is now the captain of his own ship, and if he's truly as big a Halo fan as he says he is, it would be interesting to see something come from it.

“Asha, if you want to reach out about us doing an open-world Halo game with a disproportionate level of driving versus other stuff, then reach out and I'll give you a pitch for it.”

Xbox has made it clear that it intends to focus on its biggest franchises, including Gears of War, Forza, and Halo. Personally, I think Halo still has an enormous amount of untapped potential, and if Star Wars: Galactic Racer can exist, then there's no reason we couldn't see a Halo Spartan Racer (or whatever you fancy calling it) exist too!
