Now we know why there is a stock problem and there aren't Xbox consoles on the shelves for sale! Sorry to repeat myself, but I love that controller buttons despite never having an Xbox 360.

Free consoles for a room full of people who very likely already have a series x. Why else would they be at an xbox showcase? Doesn't seem like a very good use of the limited memory supply that is driving up costs for everyone else.

Is this gonna be like the keanu reeves moment where they gave a fan a console and it turned out to be a well known xbox you tuber.

Think about Xbox last year, and then think about where XBOX is now. And we still haven't seen Helix.

The future is going to depend on that landing right, no matter how good your PR game is.

How many of them consoles will be on eBay in the next few hours for 3x the price I think they should sign something saying that they can’t sell it if u are big fan u will keep it but if someone is going to give u over 2000 for it in this type os market

There's always money involved in everything we do, to live, even. It doesn't mean that you can't be genuine and want to do your best at your job. I don't mean giving consoles away, in between.

People in Microsoft/Xbox got hurt by playstation dominating and they don't like it!
The hubris has kicked in at Microsoft and it's lovely to see!
There needs to be more than playstation and Nintendo in the console market in my opinion.

Also consoles are still a lot of peoples main way of gaming that ain't changing soon.

Not only because they sell fewer consoles than Sony, but because they need a bigger market as the second greatest publisher, so merging console and PC is what they will be focusing on, but let's not forget they started that idea on Xbox One with Play Anywhere and free cloud saves. Now, with an overhauled store for console and PC and the same game builds for Helix and Windows devices, automatically optimised on the former, they are concluding that journey.

Really nice gesture to fans of Xbox. Truth be told a good use of Microsoft money vs dumping it into AI. Feels good just to hear they are trying to recommit to the console, which means over time cheaper hardware. Equals more people can play. All good news.

@Fiendish-Beaver Fair point, though I would be worried if the fans who paid to go watch an Xbox-dedicated showcase live don't already own at least one of the current Xbox models.

What happens long term with her will be the key here. Up to now she's had the remit and opportunity to look good handed to her on a plate almost this being case and point.

Xbox took a direction long time fans didn't like and she's come in and reversing some of it and it looks really good initially but what happens in the long term is what will matter

@nomither6 you hit the nail on the head a bit there. Phil came in after Don Mattrick quite frankly rubbished the bed with it anything Phil did after that was almost a PR home run. What mattered more was what he did long term which imo he did a great job with.

This is a bit of a lesser thing but the premise is the same so what she does longer term is what will matter the most. Let's see.

Tons of buzzkills in here. In the scope of things, they gave away, what, a few thousand at most? Considering 100's of millions phones, PC, consoles, etc are out in the wild, this changes nothing with the ram prices. Such a small portion. Even on an "Xbox" website, gamers have to be absolutely toxic. She was trying to do something cool for the people that have covered the Xbox showcase for years.
