Fable Developer Highlights The Pros & Cons Of Delaying To February 2027

Amidst the craziness of the Xbox Games Showcase and all the other Xbox news that's been doing the rounds over the past couple of weeks, it was unfortunately confirmed that Fable was being delayed to February of 2027.

Speaking to GamesRadar last week, Playground Games General Manager Ralph Fulton admitted that the delay caused "a little bit of disappointment" amongst the Fable development team, as they'd been fixated on a 2026 release.

"The team has spent this year absolutely gunning for a date, which is, you know, no longer in this year. I think there was initially a little bit of disappointment around that. You know, a team gets really focused on that."

However, even if Xbox didn't say it outright, we all know why Asha Sharma and her team didn't want to release Fable in late 2026 - Gears of War: E-Day is in October, and then GTA 6 is in November.

And so, Fulton says he's been impressing on the team that releasing in February 2027 allows them to "go out and really make a moment for ourselves".

"Honestly, the thing I love about it now, and the thing I've tried to sell the team on, is going in February, having a much less contested window allows us the opportunity to go out and really make a moment for ourselves, and I think the attention this game deserves."

As much as we'd love to play Fable this year, it does seem like delaying it to February 2027 is for the best. GTA will have been out for a few months at that point, so the hype should have died down enough to give Fable time in the spotlight.

And of course, waiting a little longer allows Playground Games to apply more polish to the experience, which should hopefully result in a fantastic day one launch. The release seems far off right now, but it'll soon come around!
