Take-Two Hires Former Perfect Dark Leads To Spin Up A Brand-New Project

Following Perfect Dark's cancellation back in July, we heard reports that GTA maker Take-Two had tried to take over the project before talks collapsed, but it sounds as though the mega publisher liked what it saw. The same source has now revealed that two of the game's lead developers are spinning up a new 2K studio instead, with one of them confirming their involvement shortly afterwards.

Yep, Bloomberg's Jason Schreier has given us an update on the whole Take-Two, Perfect Dark situation. The renowned journalist now says that studio head Darrell Gallagher and director Brian Horton are starting a "brand-new studio within 2K", and Gallagher has gone on to announce their involvement with this project via LinkedIn.

Darrell Gallagher: "I’m excited to share that I will be joining 2K as SVP, Studio Head, where I’ll be building a new studio and leading an ambitious opportunity unlike anything I’ve taken on before. I’ve spent my career believing in what’s possible when great people come together with a bold vision. I can’t wait to get started with the exceptional team at 2K!"

Of course, this means that Perfect Dark itself isn't likely to see the light of day here, but it does mean that two of the main devs behind it have been given the opportunity to create something new. And, Take-Two is actually pretty patient when it comes to new projects (look at GTA 6, Judas, etc.), so we're quietly confident that this one will actually come out, one day.

Having said that, it'll probably be a while until we see the fruits of this labour, given that this is a brand-new development team within 2K. We'll have to be patient to see what comes from the ruins of the Perfect Dark reboot, then, but it's safe to say we're excited to see where Take-Two goes with this new studio and the talent leading it.
