More than a year ago now, we got our deepest look at Judas yet; the next game from famous BioShock creator Ken Levine. The studio has pretty much gone dark since then, but Levine has re-emerged this week with the first of a series of 'dev logs' planned for the upcoming Xbox title - and he's brought some sweet in-game goodies to this first entry.
The first of those goodies is the game's official key art, which you can check out up above in all its glory. Levine says the team was inspired by Drew Struzan's work on Star Wars movie posters, and that "there’s probably some details you might be curious about" within the art itself. Just a little tease for the full game there, then!
More goodies were also shared in the form of a couple of short gameplay clips showcasing a tiny bit more gameplay. Look, we know, there's not a lot go on here - but the experience is certainly shaping up to be quite BioShock-like as we see more and more Judas gameplay. Here's a look at both of those clips shared to social media:
Finally, Levine also shared that the team has hit a major dev milestone recently surrounding its 'Villainy' mechanic. Inspired by Shadow of Mordor's Nemesis system, villains in Judas will have a direct relationship with the player - and your actions in-game will determine how each of them interacts with you.
"We’ve just finished a major milestone: Villainy. Villainy is a central feature of Judas. When you play BioShock or BioShock Infinite, the villain is always going to be the villain. Fontaine, Comstock — they’re always going to be the bad guys.
In Judas, your actions will attract members of the Big 3 to you as friends. But ignore one of them enough, and they become the villain. From there, they will get access to a new suite of powers to subvert your actions and goals. Eventually, you’ll have to make decisions about who you’re going to focus your energy on… and who you’ll wind up alienating."
The team signed off its first dev log by addressing the game's illusive release date. Long story short, they're not ready to provide one yet - but they're well aware that folks would like to know ASAP, and that the launch of Judas is "a day everyone on the team is working toward".
