To Make Up For GTA 6's Delay, GTA Online Is Free On Xbox This Week

Still hungover from last week's GTA 6 delay? Well, if you somehow don't own GTA 5 on every platform known to man, Rockstar has made the online portion of its latest Grand Theft Auto game free on Xbox this week.

Yep, GTA Online for Xbox Series X|S is now free-to-play until Monday, November 17th - and you won't need an Xbox Game Pass membership to access the multiplayer title either. Here's how Xbox sets up this free period for GTA Online on Series X|S:

"This week, everyone can enjoy Grand Theft Auto Online on Xbox with no Game Pass membership required. There’s a host of new content and updates to jump into, whether you’re a returning player, or trying GTA Online for the first time. Experience faster vehicles available exclusively at Hao’s Special Works, quicker loading times, stunning visuals and enhanced levels of fidelity and performance, and much more."

Microsoft is naming this as part of its upcoming Free Play Days lineup, which we should learn about in full this Thursday. GTA Online will likely lead the FPD charge this week, but we're still expecting a full selection of free weekend titles to be revealed shortly - we'll bring you the full roster when we know of it.

As for GTA Online itself, well, it's cool for Rockstar to open this up to everyone for a good few days, but we don't know of anyone that's not tried GTA 5 in some fashion at this point! Still, it's a welcome peace offering for the GTA 6 delay; we're now going to have to wait until November 2026 to play the next game in the series.
