Following the incredible success of 2025's A Minecraft Movie, outlet Deadline has confirmed that A Minecraft Movie 2 is now officially in the works - and it's heading to theatres in summer 2027.
Jared Hess returns to direct the upcoming sequel, with Hess and Chris Galletta working together on the screenplay. The outlet describes said screenplay as "under wraps" as work begins on putting the second Minecraft movie together.
Deadline also notes Mary Parent and Cale Boyter as the movie's producers, with Roy Lee, Eric McLeod, Kayleen Walters, Torfi Frans Ólafsson and Jason Momoa also part of the production team. The official poster for A Minecraft Movie 2 has been shared as well, which we'll include down below:
Despite a mixed critical reception, the first Minecraft movie did incredibly well - it grossed $157m in its opening weekend according to CNN at the time. It makes sense that a sequel is coming, then, and we'll have to wait and see how this one does both critically and commercially when it airs in a few years' time.
