Following Xbox's reveal of Halo: Campaign Evolved last week, we covered everything new coming to the team's brand-new remake - and in a fresh group interview, Halo Studios has confirmed that the major addition of three new prequel missions will feature an "all-new story" rather than re-treading old ground.
When asked about whether these prequel missions will pull stories from other mediums such as books and comics, Creative director Max Szlagor noted that they wouldn't be, going on to say that they'll tell an "all-new" story set before the events of Halo: Combat Evolved.
"It's about Chief and Johnson. It's a prequel to the original Halo Combat Evolved story [...] It actually takes place in a fairly short timeline in the way that the lore works. And so finding a good place in the lore to tell this story with Chief and Johnson, it's going to have, you know, new story, new gameplay, weapons, enemies, environments. So a lot of cool stuff there."
Szlagor added that the team didn't want to "insert new story" into the main campaign itself, but was keen to build onto the original game with these prequel missions. Game director Greg Hermann also noted that the prequel content takes place in "settings you may be familiar with, if you know the franchise" - which is certainly a tease for longtime Halo fans who'll be eager to get their hands on this content.
Hopefully this story will all stay under wraps and be a nice surprise when the remake launches. Halo: Campaign Evolved is coming to Xbox in 2026, and you can check out some related stories on Halo Studios' upcoming debut down below.
