Halo Studios unveiled its Combat Evolved remake last week in the form of Halo: Campaign Evolved, and over the weekend, co-creator on the original game — Marcus Lehto — has heaped praise on Xbox's direction with this brand-new version of the original Halo.
Taking to social media yesterday, Lehto gave his "honest impression" of Halo: Campaign Evolved based on last week's showing. Lehto says "I absolutely love where this is going", adding "I wish we could have built it originally" in a similar way back in 2001.
So far, fan reception to the reveal has been somewhat mixed - some folks are agreeing with Lehto's take, while others are questioning Halo Studios' direction here. Whichever way you're leaning so far, it's worth remembering that what we've seen is very early footage at the moment - with things likely to change quite a bit in the run up to launch next year.
Of course, there's also all of the changes Halo Studios is making here; they're worth taking into account too. We're not just getting the original campaign, but we're also getting four player co-op, additional prequel missions, extra weapons and mechanics - and Lehto seems impressed with everything Halo Studios is packing into Campaign Evolved.
