It's been a big week for Xbox fans as one of the platform's most-famous franchises makes its PS5 debut in the form of Gears of War: Reloaded, and some numbers coming in over the weekend suggest that this has been a pretty good move for Microsoft so far.
In well under a week (roughly three days, in fact), Gears Reloaded managed to pull in over one million players across Xbox, PS5 and PC. Given the weekend has now passed, we wouldn't be surprised if this is a much higher number now; The Coalition may even give us an update on the numbers in the coming days.
The team's tongue-in-cheek "ending the console war, one grub at a time" message is a nice touch as well - we're definitely in a new multiplatform future nowadays and this Xbox fan is more than happy to see loads of new PS5 players pile into Gears multiplayer. Don't forget that Helldivers 2 just moved in the other direction too!
Of course, it's worth mentioning that Xbox Game Pass / Microsoft's free upgrade path will have contributed heavily to this initial number - but we'd imagine PS5 sales have still been significant given this is the first time either Gears or Halo — arguably Xbox's most iconic franchises — have been available on the platform.
