With Hollow Knight: Silksong's official release date now out in the wild, we've got to turn our attention to another long-in-development indie game, right? Well, Sad Cat Studios' REPLACED certainly fits the bill - and while we've been waiting a good while for this one now, it's at least showing up at various events as the team continues to work away on it.
That's right, following news earlier this year that the game has been pushed back to 2026, the Cyprus-based studio has shown up at Gamescom 2025 with a fresh Replaced preview, courtesy of IGN. You can check out the brand-new video preview up above, and here's how the outlet describes its latest look at Replaced:
"Since its reveal over four years ago, the hype train for Replaced has continued to gather speed. Now, as we get to see even more of this super-slick side-scroller, Igor Gritsay, co-founder of Sad Cat Studios, goes into detail about the game's inspirations, what to expect from the gameplay and how the combat riffs on the Batman Arkham games."
The animation work in particular looks absolutely stellar here in Replaced, and we're very keen to learn how that all feels; controller in-hand. It seems as though we're going to have to wait a while for that opportunity though - this stylish side-scroller only has a vague release window of sometime in 2026.
Still, Replaced continues to be worked on — as is evidenced by its appearance at Gamescom — and it's still set to launch day one on Xbox Game Pass. For an early look at what else is scheduled for the service next year, check out our 2026 Game Pass guide down below.
