We have a major Xbox Game Pass release landing this week in the form of day one soulslike Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, and ahead of its upcoming launch, some early reviews have dropped for this upcoming XGP adventure.

So, we're going to round these up down below, so you can get a flavour of what to expect from this new action-RPG. Oh, and if you're curious about exactly when you can go hands-on with Wuchang on Game Pass, check out our full guide on the title right here:

Without further ado, here's what those early reviews are saying:

TechRadar Gaming (9/10)

"Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is the best soulslike game since 2023’s Lies of P. Developer Leenzee has handled almost everything expertly, from intricate level design that intelligently loops back on itself to thrillingly fast-paced combat that introduces some very fun defensive elements. It’s also a game that really makes you think about your loadout on a per-level basis, with status afflictions and damage types playing an important role. Some frustrating moments aside, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is an essential soulslike experience."

DualShockers (9/10)

"Wuchang: Fallen Feathers doesn't soar all the way to FromSoftware heights, but it comes darn close. What's presented here is likely the best traditional Soulslikes I've ever played from a competitor, and well worth checking out for any fan of the genre. At its core, it's a brutal game with lots of build variety, but can eventually be trivialized if you know how to exploit some of your options. Still, it never stops being fun and interesting, and melee players will have great challenges in spades. Occasional "frustrations" will arise during your experience, but it's typically nothing we don't let FromSoftware get away with time and time again. Bottom line, if you want a brilliantly interconnected Soulslike map with plenty of great bosses and overall design, this is another fresh genre option that shows the field is truly beginning to close the gap."

IGN (8/10)

"With its fast-paced, dynamic, and flexible combat and a best-in-class skill tree that allows for a ton of build experimentation and customization, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is an extremely respectable debut soulslike for developer Leenzee Games. Some of the later bosses feel frustratingly lacking in chances to capitalize on opportunities for damage, and I would’ve enjoyed fewer “Surprise! You’re dead!” kinds of moments. But while those feather-ruffling issues lead to some rough patches, none are abrasive enough to keep this innovative take on a hugely popular genre from soaring with some of the greats."

Dexerto (8/10)

"Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is yet another great Soulslike with an entertaining and satisfying combat system that's impossible to put down. I wish its boss fights would break the mould a little more, but the depth of the Madness feature makes even the more irritating areas worth the pain…This is the next challenge that fans of Elden Ring, Dark Souls, and Black Myth: Wukong need to face. You’ll probably end up using swear words you didn’t even realize you knew, but if you can stomach the difficulty, you’ll be rewarded with the standout Soulslike of 2025."

Noisy Pixel (7.5/10)

"While WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers can be a fairly rugged souls-like suffering from mismanaged balancing and performance, its strengths in combat design and exploration truly excel once they hit their stride. Throw in intricate character customization with plenty of significant player choice, and you have an execution of the genre that will assuredly gel with souls-like enthusiasts. As it stands, WUCHANG can bite off a bit more than it can chew, though it shines more often than not."

RPGamer (7/10)

"All in all, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers successfully distinguishes itself as worthy of attention for multiple reasons. Beyond its riveting gameplay and exceptional character customization, Wuchang crafts a vibrant, mystical, and interesting world deeply rooted in Chinese culture. Sadly, the game’s awful quest progression, storytelling mishaps, and occasionally overbearing level design keep the promising concepts, plot premise, and beautiful world from shining like they should. Nevertheless, Wuchang’s sheer excitement is too attractive and makes for a gameplay experience that fans of action RPGs and especially Soulslikes will not want to miss."

Push Square (6/10)

"Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is enjoyable enough without its performance troubles, but with them, they’re a major drag on the overall game. Wait for them to be ironed out in post-launch patches and you’ll find a decent, if formulaic experience."

Eurogamer (6/10)

"Wuchang is familiar. The food's good, but I've already had this meal before. You know what to expect, you know what ingredients you're going to taste, you might even be able to predict the order in which they kick in, and you probably won't get sucker punched by an unexpected spice. How much you can tolerate Wuchang: Fallen Feather's familiarity probably depends on how many times you can eat a plate of your favorite comfort food before you build up a craving for something more."

TheSixthAxis (4/10)

"Despite a fascinating premise, one inspired by both Chinese folklore and real-life history, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers resolutely fails to deliver on any of its initial early promise. This is a Soulslike by the numbers, one hampered by a cornucopia of PS5 performance issues that plague the game like a disease."

We have a very wide range of review scores for this one, then, with the game currently sitting at a Metacritic score of 75 and an Open Critic rating of 78. That's all the more reason to try out Wuchang: Fallen Feathers for yourself on Xbox Game Pass, we suppose!
