Report: Two Of Xbox's Upcoming First-Party Titles Are In Development For PS5

State of Decay 3 is a perfect fit for multiplatform releases IMO, and will no doubt be a hot seller when it arrives. Cant wait!

This is clearly the intention for the full slate of games. Microsoft have no care for the damage this will do for the Xbox console side of things, they only see the dollars that the sales garner on the PlayStation. Then add to that that the best place to play these games will be on the PS5 Pro, and you can see more and more Xbox gamers calling it a day and switching to Team Blue instead. Microsoft clearly only see the Xbox as a Game Pass machine, and even then, I don't think that Microsoft have the same regard for Game Pass that Xbox did.

The funny thing is there are people absolutely blind to what is happening; insisting week in, week out, that Microsoft only put old games on the PlayStation. Only games that have been exclusive to the Xbox for a matter of years. For some unfathomable reason, they simply cannot see the trajectory. Whether than is complete naivety or wilful ignorance, I cannot tell, but maybe once these titles land on the PlayStation day one they will finally wake up and see what is happening...

I do wonder if they will keep the 3 in the title now that it's going multiplat. It'd made sense to serve this as a soft reboot.

@Fiendish-Beaver No, or at least SoD2 wasn't. It was a heavily supported game post-launch with multiplayer.

I’m still not happy that Microsoft do not come out and say this.
As it is probably true, yet again hanging things on a thread and not telling anybody.

Not sure if they are trying to keep some sort of console sales ticking over or GPU subscriptions, but it is Microsoft’s usual trick.

State of Decay 2 started glitchy, but it slowly became an excellent game. I expect great things from the third title.

@Fiendish-Beaver it’s crazy everyone thinks that everyone is jumping ship. Xbox to me isn’t just about exclusives. I like the UI, I love the controller and love my gamers score and all the games I can play with Gamepass. I’m not jumping ship. At the very least I will get the handheld to play some of the PS5 exclusives that will ultimately be dropped on steam.

@Banjo- only difference is we don’t know the extent of Sony’s intentions, we do with Microsoft’s.

The PS5 Pro is still selling relatively well, @Millionski, and next year it will see an upgrade that makes it even better. When that happens, I think it will go from an enthusiasts machine to much more mainstream, and then when GTA comes along, it will sell very well indeed, likely ill outsell the Series consoles on its own, if it isn't already.

I agree that relatively few people will leave mid-generation, but when it comes time to upgrade, that is when people will jump ship. If Microsoft are sensible, they will try and get a head start on Sony as then people will upgrade within the Xbox ecosystem in order to get the best available console. If they go head to head with the PS6, Xbox will lose heavily, as people will opt for the PS6 over whatever Microsoft offer, and if it is a PC at a premium price, then doubly so.

Lastly, whilst I agree that PC is the best place to play games, a lot of people prefer the simplicity of a console, and more importantly, the entry price. PC's are much better because the cost much more, and these days, a console can give a very similar, and very good, experience for a third of the cost. That is why, when I talk about things like this, I disregard PC gaming, because if you are gaming on a console, you are likely wanting to continue to do so...

But you have one thing missing by disregarding PC gamers...

As a PC gamer if you could buy a console at as you say 1/3 the price of a good gaming PC, then wouldn't you consider buying your next gaming PC as a console?

This isn't about Sony, Nintendo, and MS selling consoles. This is about MS changing the market so that it becomes a lot bigger. Merging both console and PC gaming into one community. No more porting, no more console wars, just a bunch of gamers buying hardware from any vendor and using one gaming OS and platform. Just like music and movies, everything becomes standardized so that publishers can sell their games to as many gamers as possible.

I don't think everyone will jump ship, @IssaBrvndo, at least not until Microsoft stop making consoles. What I do think is that there will be a steady, not inconsequential, number of people leaving Xbox over the next year or so, but that it is when the PS6 comes out that there will be a much more significant switch.

The proof in the pudding will be over the next 5 years. If, as I suspect, Game Pass ceases within that period, then for a lot of people, the need to remain Green will cease...

I think you may well be right, @NeoRatt, but a lot of people will not be prepared for the increase in difficulty in getting a game to run on their new Xbox PC, when compared to playing on a console. People that have never gamed on a PC don't understand just how much more troublesome it can be.

Also, once Microsoft do go the PC route, who is going to buy a game via the Xbox Store? Tis way cheaper to do so via Steam (and CDKeys). The move will be, in my opinion, disastrous for Microsoft, and it will propel them even faster to just being a publisher...

First you are assuming two things that may be wrong.

Assumptions:
1) The XB PC will be just as difficult to configure and run games as a regular PC.
2) MS views gaming store revenue as an important and non-negotiable revenue stream.

So, what if:

1) MS ships a PC configured like an XB is today and it is just as easy to manage as the XB console is today?
2) MS views being the gaming platform (OS and cloud) as the revenue streams they really want rather than the gaming stores and only GamePass is the non-negotiable revenue stream.

Then,

1) MS becomes the largest gaming/cloud platform holder along with Tencent.
2) MS still have a store that is centered around GamePass. (Which is probably where 80% of their gaming store revenues probably come from today anyhow).

You have to remember why MS got into consoles to start with... It was because they felt that consoles (specifically PS2) would canibalize gaming on PC and therefore MS would lose gamer enthusiast revenues on Windows. If MS continues to view it this way your assumptions might not be as strong as you think they are.

I think the ROG Ally this year is going to start to clarify this picture more.

I don't understand your thinking, @NeoRatt. Playing an Xbox game on the next Xbox PC will remain as easy as it is today. Playing a Steam game through that device will be just as problematic as it is playing on any other PC. Games are not optimised in quite the same way on Steam as they are on consoles. It will not be as straightforward to play them as it is an Xbox game. That's not to say that some games won't play absolutely fine, but if you try diving into some of the older games on Steam, you will run into difficulties.

As for Microsoft considering their Store to be a priority, I absolutely agree they will. However, as a gamer, if I see a game at £10 / £20 cheaper on Steam (or via a CDKeys key) I'm not going to be buying it on the Xbox Store, and of course Microsoft have no control over third-party pricing. So it matter not how much of a priority that Microsoft consider the Xbox Store to be, if a game is cheaper elsewhere (and there is a high probability it will be cheaper on Steam) then that is where even those that buy this new Xbox will buy their games...

Again, another assumption that every game on Steam will be able to be used on the XB PC console. I think Steam will limit the games available on their XB store to ones that meet a seamless standard for install. Or at least they will be marked in some way that they will install seamlessly.

I do agree Steam sells cheaper, but that doesn't mean they always will be selling cheaper. Or that games on MS game store will be more expensive. When separate markets come together, prices tend to standardize.

It really suxx if true. And I’m pretty sure that sony will focus more on Switch 2 than on Xbox so the Xbox will remain the losing system.

If true, it would be nice it has crossplay. Considering the more robust multiplayer it will have.

I'm all for these and all games going multiplayer. The concept of exclusives needs to die in this day and age. I just wish Microsoft hadn't blown its entire development budget on a garbage company like Activison-Blizzard. That $69 billion would've been better spent on developing original IP and supporting existing IP within Microsoft's already-neglected library of IP. I'd take sequels and reboots for Crimson Skies, Mechassault, Brute Force, Kameo, Viva Pinata, Conker, Sudeki, Black & White, etc... over anything ABK has ever released.

If the only way I get a new xbox game for my Xbox series x is by the ps5 getting a new xbox game, I guess it will have to do.

I have a really good gaming PC, @nomither6. In total it has cost me more than £3600, but man I just don't enjoy it at all. I much prefer playing on my Series X or my PS5 (even though they have the X button in the wrong place on the PS controller, which always catches me out because I only game on it once or twice a year)...

It’s either going to be games that are already multiplatform, or older titles that have already launched. But I don't believe it’ll be State of Decay 3 or Gears E-Day, which would completely contradict their strategy so far. Not a single game has launched day one on other platforms, except for titles that have historically been multiplatform. That’s just a fact. If it happens, it would mark a major shift in their strategy, contrary to what the article’s author claims.

But to me, it would make no logical sense. Until now, their historically exclusive titles have never released day one elsewhere; they benefit from temporary exclusivity, then cash in again a few years later on other platforms.

What’s funny is that this fake rumor came out at the exact same time as PlayStation’s official multiplatform pivot, which clearly shows that some media outlets are really in PlayStation’s pocket and trying to put out the fire.

Well, if you look at the top 10 PS5 games I'm sure these 2 will also come to PS5.

@NeoRatt families and young lads worldwide will still covet a PlayStation. The more separation from these mega corporations the better. I support each having their own bespoke hardware. It will be a tough sell for MS worldwide to push its Xbox PC as it was a super struggle to push the good value Series S console. I’m surprised it took MS this long to make a hybrid PC Xbox but they still have their work cut out for them. As the PC base isn’t the console or mobile phone base. PC gamers are mostly folks that are 18+ and have a real job. So there will always be a demand for a console device that goes under one’s TV. If MS kept most of the Xbox games as exclusive this hybrid device would be more alluring to me. As it stands now, I’ll just get a PS6 pro whenever it comes out. And I’ve had an Xbox since the beginning so I’m not a hater. I just appreciate brand identity.

@fatpunkslim don’t be surprised if E-day goes day 1 on PlayStation. As the suits at MS know that the PS fan base actually buys games. MS tied its hands with its subsidized gamepass service by going day 1 for everything they own. I’m still disappointed that gears 1 is going to PS. It was a staple IP during the great X360/PS3 generation. Gears 1 going to PlayStation is to generate excitement about the IP which seriously leads me to believe E-day will be out the same time as day 1 subsidized gamepass.

@Vaako007 I both agree and disagree! Why be disappointed that Gears 1 is coming to PlayStation? It’ll definitely create desire among PS players — and that’s precisely why it won’t launch day one on PS, just like every former Xbox exclusive. This desire will push that player base to dive in on day one by joining the Xbox ecosystem: whether through Game Pass, buying it on Steam or Xbox, or playing via the cloud. Xbox offers multiple entry points, and that’s what makes it awesome.

I describe myself as very technical but I like consoles because they don't require me to tinker with them all the time unlike PC. If MS can deliver a device that works on TV just like XB does I will continue to buy the brand. But I also am fortunate enough to be able to afford to buy the other consoles as well. I would spend more on games though if the devices all just merged and there was only one device for gaming on TVs.
