In a new EA earnings call covering Q1 of the current fiscal year (via VGC), CEO Andrew Wilson has addressed questions about game pricing, and whether the company plans to bump up prices anytime soon. Thankfully, Wilson says there are no such plans "at this stage", as it prepares to launch Battlefield 6 on Xbox platforms.
Elaborating on that point, Wilson reiterated that EA has lots of different price points depending on the game within its portfolio, but even so - no plans for $80 AAA games are in motion at this stage. We'll throw a quote on this down below:
"We’re not looking to make any changes on pricing at this stage, but that’s in the construct of we already offer a fairly broad pricing scheme across our various products,
When you think about everything from free-to-play through to our premium products and our deluxe editions, our orientation is always to capture the full spectrum of pricing so that we can serve players in the best way possible and offer them the greatest value.
We’ll continue to look at opportunities to deliver great value to our players through various pricing schemes over the course of time, but no dramatic changes planned yet."
This should mean that Battlefield 6 will remain a $70 / £70 product, as we mentioned in our recent story on the game's rumoured release date. It's been reported that the next Battlefield will launch on Xbox in October, and if that's true, it should easily fall into EA's current plans to stick to $70 premium game prices for the time being.
As for this EA news generally, we're not too surprised by it to be honest. Despite Nintendo gunning for certain $80 video games, the move didn't work out quite so well for Microsoft, which recently reversed its decision and is now pricing The Outer Worlds 2 at $70 instead. Let's see what the future holds in terms of game pricing, but for 2025, things are largely staying put.
