Despite Gears of War: E-Day being a no-show at this year's Xbox Games Showcase, a follow-up podcast episode has not only given us a small developer update on the 2026 title - but also some fresh details on how this year's Gears of War: Reloaded is shaping up on Xbox Series X|S.
Not so long ago, we broke down all of the tech changes coming to Gears: Reloaded on Xbox, but Microsoft's info didn't specify the differences between Series X and S. On this new Xbox podcast episode, developer The Coalition has confirmed that both Series X and S consoles support 120FPS gameplay in multiplayer.
"It's also worth noting that the 120 frames per second multiplayer (and 60FPS modes) are available on the Xbox Series S as well as the Xbox Series X - so we're not compromising as we really push all of the hardware in the Xbox Series lineup."
When it comes to resolution, the situation isn't quite as clear. As we mentioned, those tech changes mentioned 4K support, but we're assuming that Series S will run at a lower resolution natively to hit these new frame rate targets. Still, given that Reloaded is based on an older Gears game, we're expecting it to turn it in decent results on Xbox Series S.
Either way, it's nice for Series S users to get confirmation of 120FPS support on Microsoft's smaller system - as long as your display hardware supports it of course. Gears of War: Reloaded can be played on the console this August, or even earlier if you fancy jumping into the upcoming cross-platform beta.
