Xbox Dominates PS5 Charts, Forza Horizon 5 'Most Downloaded' Game In May

Doesn't surprise me in the least. They're great games and despite what a few trolls say, Xbox has games and they clearly do well cross platform. This is good for the games, good for the studios, good for MS and in turn, good for us.

This is a positive for the whole industry. Multiplatform is the future.

@Kaloudz it baffles me how hard people fanboy for PS5 like its getting all their problems solved while 1st party output this year is 8 (confirmed) games from MS and only 2 from Sony (thats counting DS2 which is another topic).

I have ps5 that I like but man I beat all ps5 games and just catching on bunch of older ps4 stuff now. The only game I am interested this year is ghost 2.

Of course its all subjective as if you are big fan of lets say DS2, thats worth it, but on average you have way more chances to find something interesting from MS but on xbox you can save with GP.

@BacklogBrad I d say sony gets a monopoly next gen and will have even less exclusives. I bet on Less to none 3rd party and they can double down on Gaas gamble with 1st party even more.
We needed competition from xbox, not quitting consoles...

this tells me if you can "survive" without 2-3 sony exclusives per year, you can eat good on xbox and save a lot with GP while essentially playing way more games for less money. The quality and pacing problems of GP has been fixed this year already.

Sony have already released one game(MLB the Show 25) and 4 games have release dates in the next 4 months(Ghost of Yotei, Death Stranding 2, Marathon, Lost Soul Aside)

No ones saying that. They used to say that when Xbox actually did have a dry spell in output. Remember when they had a lull around ‘21/‘22?

Obviously Xbox has games, they just acquired like 15+ extra studios. Would be kind of embarassing if they didn’t lead in output. On top of that they’re rereleasing older titles to PS. No one’s trolling the Xbox anymore about not having games, you can let that narrative go. We’re all very grateful that Xbox is releasing all these formerly multiplat IP’s to multiple platforms 😁

@Millionski See, personally, I don't think it's as simple as counting exclusives anymore. For as long as there's been more than one console, there's been a group of people that cant help but go out of their way to point out why their choice is better.

Take Xbox vs PS for instance. First it was a war for better resolution. Then it went to a war for better frame rate. Then it went to a war for the most power. Then it went to a war for content (albeit that one has always been present). Now, it's something entirely different.

If people spent less time trying to devalue what other people play / play on, and spent more time focusing on what they enjoy, we'd all be better for it. In the case of Xbox, I get countless heavy hitting games (first and third party alike) for an amazing deal - Game Pass. It's the best deal in gaming, bar none.

Do I need to sit here and compare it to PS Plus or whatever it's called? No, and why would I? I boot up my console at night, and get lost in whatever I'm playing. Simple.

That said, I am super happy those on PS and Switch can start enjoying games that we enjoy - and like I said above, despite what the odd few trolls have said over the years about Xbox games being garbage...

@Rog-X Of course, if you don’t own the labour it’s third party, even if you work with the development team for 5 years and fully fund the development, even in the game is built on an Engine that Sony owns(DS2). However, if you buy an existing game series, put your name on the box and give zero aid in the development with nothing then that’s a legitimate first party game.

Given that, your maths is still wrong. Also, I’m pretty sure that 8 MS number includes games made by third parties like Oblivion Remaster and Ninja Gaiden 4.

@BacklogBrad This whole multiplatform strategy might make sense on paper for short-term profits, but it’s killing the Xbox brand and its hardware. If all the major Xbox titles are going to show up on PlayStation anyway, why would anyone bother buying an Xbox?

They're erasing the one real reason to stay in their ecosystem: exclusives. Without that, Xbox becomes just a less popular PC alternative with a subscription service. And once people stop buying the consoles, the platform loses relevance fast and the consoles get discontinued.

In the long run, this doesn’t just hurt Xbox—it hurts the entire industry. Without a strong Xbox competing head-to-head with PlayStation, we’re heading straight into a Sony monopoly. And that means less innovation, fewer consumer choices, and a stagnating console market.

@Xboxian360 if exclusives were the reason to buy an Xbox, no one would have ever bought an Xbox to begin with. They went decades with very little first party support. 1st party content was their greatest weakness until the last 2 years.

There are about to be more xbox hardware devices available than any other generation. There will be the Microsoft devices, officially licensed 3rd party devices and probably a more fleshed out xbox environment on pc. You are also ignoring that Nintendo and Steam compete head to head with Sony already and will continue to do so. It will be even more so when Steam's "home console" device comes out and other pc companies release their own "console" pc like they did with handhelds. Sony has never seen more competition than they are right now. Xbox isn't going anywhere but Sony wouldn't have anything close to a monopoly if they did.

You seem to be making the same mistake the FTC made when they tried to redefine what the industry is. The companies are evolving beyond the single home device restriction and the industry will be better for it.

Exclusives do nothing but make it harder for people to buy and play the game.

8 games by MS (1st party) in 2025 are : Avowed, SOM, doom, oblivion, THPS3+4, Gears reloaded, cod and OW2.

@BacklogBrad I think we all (myself included) just concerned with state of xbox console. Definitely, they are winning on the software side now but they are making competitie hardware (ps consoles) more lucrative. Simultaneously, they have aggressive marketing against buying an xbox console at all, and increase prices.

If they kept pushing consoles with bundles, advertising and game pass even without exclusvies I would have more peace of mind.

Everything they do now just hints at not next xbox but current series s/x being a last gen in a traditional sense.

@Millionski you're counting 3 remasters/remakes (2 of those are even developed by third party studios and are remasters of games MS had no involvement or ownership of at the time of development). Gears of War is a remaster of the Xbox One remake and only a marginal improvement, that's like calling Days Gone Remastered a new game.

Ironically you started moving goalposts by saying games like Death Stranding 2 don’t count, while i’m sure Sony themselves consider it first party. However you do count THPS 3+4 which was done by Iron Galaxy, and originally developed by Neversoft, both studios not owned by MS.

Some Xbox users are creating a fake narrative that somehow Playstation dont have games, because their first party output is having a lull (which is true)

However Playstation gamers dont only play first party games. And the only reason you focus on first party is because Xbox now has a huge output after acquiring 15+ extra studios. But games count whether they are first party or third party.

Focusing only on first party output totally ignores all the great games Playstation are getting like Final Fantasy Rebirth, Pacific Drive, Granblue Fantasy, Helldivers 2, Stellar Blade, Silent Hill 2, Midnight Walk, Towers of Aghasba, Black Myth Wukong, Sword of the Sea, Death Stranding 2, Lost Soul Aside, Ghost of Yotei, Phantom Blade Zero and more.

I’m glad Xbox finally has a large output now, but you guys need to stop worrying whether Playstation gamers are eating, cause we are stuffed 😂

@Millionski i think the next step for xbox and playstation is to move beyond just the box in the living room. Xbox has play anywhere and are going more towards a pc based system. Sony is rumored to be working on a pc store with cross entitlements similar to play anywhere. You can still buy the box if you want to, but they need to expand beyond that as the only place to play their games.

I believe the industry is much worse if you need to buy box A to play this set of games and box B to play that set of games. It's annoying to have all those different boxes and libraries if you can afford them and prohibitive to those that can't afford all of them.

@Millionski Hypothetically, if Death Stranding 2 and Lost Soul Aside weren’t first party you’d still have 4 compared to 8. MLB, Days Gone remastered, Marathon and Ghost of Yotei. That’s not a bad output considering Xbox has like double the studios now.

But again, i dont understand what the point is in comparing first party output. Both consoles are now getting Xbox first party so it doesn’t really mean anything anymore.

From now on it’s safe to say, Xbox will probably always have the larger output, that’s basically what the largest buyout in gaming will get you.

However in the context of comparing it to Sony, it’s become meaningless. It used to be a sport to see which platform has the best exclusive games or IPs, but obviously there’s no point in doing that anymore

Actually, Former Playstation boss Shuhei Yoshida recently gave the definition of what they consider first party at Sony. There was an article on it a while ago on Push Square. This is the exact quote from that article stating what the definition is:

First-party
A game published and fully funded by Sony. Usually owns the IP.

I’d say Death Stranding 2 and Lost Soul Aside fit perfectly well within that definition
