Since the Xbox Games Showcase wrapped up this past weekend, you've probably seen lots of PX content on the ROG Xbox Ally — because we're incredibly excited about it — and now Xbox boss Phil Spencer has chimed in on just how much work went into making the ASUS handheld a reality.
Talking on a fresh episode of the Official Xbox Podcast, Spencer talked about what it means for him to get an Xbox handheld out on the market, while also touching on the great lengths that the Windows and Microsoft Gaming teams went to to make the device happen.
Here's what the Xbox boss had to say on the development process:
"I've been at Microsoft for a couple days [laughs], and I would say that this is the tightest collaboration I've seen between the gaming organization and the Windows team in my three decades at the company. It's really amazing to see the teams focusing on opportunities for us to make the experience better, and working really as one development team to realise that."
Spencer went on to say that the upcoming Xbox handheld delivers "some uniqueness" in that it's basically an open Windows platform designed to work like a console, which is exactly what we want to hear. Obviously, we need to get this thing in our hands to know if it truly feels like an Xbox, but all the signs are there.
You can check out the full segment on the ROG Xbox Ally towards the end of the podcast episode up above, but the full thing is definitely worth a listen also - Phil touches on working with Japanese devs, what 2026 is looking like for Xbox, and more.
