The Witcher 4 Will Be 'Extremely Challenging' To Run At 60FPS On Xbox Series S

Since developer CD Projekt Red unveiled its Witcher 4 tech demo, there's been a bit of controversy surrounding the nature of the demo and how representative of the final game it is. Regardless, the Polish developer is being ambitious in terms of what it can cram into the full game; so ambitious that it's already concerned about the Xbox Series S version.

Speaking with the folks over at Digital Foundry recently, CDPR talked about how it's aiming for 60FPS gameplay on current-gen consoles - a feat that it admits will be "extremely challenging" on Xbox Series S in particular.

Here's what Charles Tremblay, CD Projekt Red‘s vice president of technology, had to say on the matter:

"This [the Xbox Series S version] is something that’s next on our radar, 60 FPS will be extremely challenging on the Series S."

To be fair, if CDPR wants to get The Witcher 4 anywhere close to its impressive tech demo, it could be a challenge to run at 60FPS on any current-gen system - let alone Series S. Given that the team's recent showing isn't representative of the final game either, they're a ways off console optimisation of any kind right now.

Anyway, here's hoping that the studio manages to get things working well on Microsoft's cheaper current-gen console, once launch rolls around. Both The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 run pretty well on the all-digital system, so we're keeping the faith that TW4 will be looking and running pretty good on that console too.
