Last year, on what's now known as 'Dragon Quest Day' (May 27th), Square Enix announced Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake for Xbox Series X|S - and this year, the team has revealed an October release date for its next remake in the legendary JRPG series.

That's right, Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake is coming to Xbox Series X|S on October 30th, marking "the narrative continuation of last year’s acclaimed DRAGON QUEST III HD-2D Remake." As the name suggests though, this year's release is actually two remakes combined - sticking with Square's "critically acclaimed graphic style" that has its origins in the Octopath Traveler series.

"Last year’s DRAGON QUEST III HD-2D Remake chronologically takes place before DRAGON QUEST I & II HD-2D Remake, so players can continue the story in these games and complete the revered Erdrick Trilogy or pick up and play this compilation as a standalone adventure."

Pre-orders for the new Dragon Quest title are now live on the Xbox Store, coming in at £59.99 / $59.99 for Xbox Series X|S and PC. This new Square Enix release is another participant in Microsoft's Xbox Play Anywhere program - meaning you only have to pick up one copy of the game to play across both platforms.

Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake launches on October 30th, 2025, for Xbox, PC, PS5 and Nintendo Switch platforms.
