Armored Core 6 Hits Xbox This Week, And The Reviews Are Fantastic

FromSoftware's Armored Core 6 officially releases on Xbox this week! The game is coming to Series X and Series S on Friday, August 25th, and ahead of that date, the first reviews have begun dropping today.

It comes as no surprise to see that it's reviewing extremely well so far - at the time of writing, it has a Metacritic score of 87 for the PlayStation 5 version and 88 for the PC version (nothing for Xbox yet).

Armored Core 6 was a game we were hoping to review before release here at Pure Xbox, but sadly we've had no luck getting access ahead of time. Nevertheless, we're hoping to provide some impressions post-launch.

Let's take a look at what some of the critics have been saying so far:

Eurogamer (5/5)

"FromSoftware delivers a superlative action game that builds on its Soulslike pedigree while staying lean and laser-focused."

Windows Central (5/5)

"If it weren't for Baldur's Gate 3, Armored Core 6 would easily be my Game of the Year for 2023 so far (Starfield is about to enter the chat). This is undeniably one of the best PC games and best Xbox games for folks that love FromSoftware's approach to game design, and I'll be singing its praises for years to come. Give it a try, and you'll be in that chorus, too."

GAMINGbible (9/10)

"In conclusion Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon is a masterful game that not only reminds veteran fans of the series that this franchise is alive and well, but it also welcomes in a new legion of fans, regardless of whether they have experience with the series or not."

GamesBeat (9/10)

"Most people who are willing to approach Armored Core VI on its own terms will have a good time. It’s a gorgeous game (I’m a big fan of the snowy, industrial aesthetic) with room for plenty of customization, and few things will feel better in any game than piloting around Rubicon’s landscapes and cities."

GameSpot (8/10)

"Its story is a letdown and there may be some early growing pains due to its lopsided approach, but these shortcomings quickly scurry to the back of your mind once you start weaving your fully customized mech between incoming attacks while unleashing a salvo of rocket fire, sword swipes, and plasma rounds."

Push Square (7/10)

"Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon admirably weds satisfying combat with extensive mech customisation, with short missions letting you quickly experiment with new ideas and builds. However, once you've settled on an optimal loadout, it's those same quick-fire levels that begin to blunt the fun. The result is a game that can be just as enjoyable as it is frustrating."

Things are looking very positive for Armored Core 6 so far, and we're excited to get hands-on over the next few days! The game is available to pre-order now on the Xbox Store for £54.99 / $59.99 ahead of this Friday's release.
