Original Article (Wed 16th Mar, 2022): The official UK Microsoft Store has listed refurbished Xbox Series X consoles for sale, with prices starting at £419.99 – down from the console's standard RRP of £449.99.
It seems to be a pretty perfect way to get your hands on a console at a slightly reduced price, and thanks to Microsoft's 'Certified Refurbished' scheme, you won't have to worry about your product's quality. These refurbished Xbox consoles come with 12-month warranty included and will contain all the standard accessories and manuals that would be present in a brand-new system seen on a store shelf.
Better yet, you can also add Microsoft Complete to the deal for £39.00 if you want to, which typically provides up to three years of warranty for your Xbox console. So, even though it's refurbished, you're getting peace of mind that way. We've talked to Xbox support about this and they've advised that you do get the extended warranty even though it's refurbished, but ultimately you might want to double check yourself with the support team just to make sure.
"For added peace of mind, Microsoft Complete gives you extended coverage and support for up to 4 years on Surface plans, and up to 3 years on Xbox plans, so that you can work and play worry-free."
If you're interested, you can grab one below. Remember that you can use Microsoft Rewards points on this deal if you want to.
Microsoft says, "Xbox Series X (Certified Refurbished) offers the opportunity to buy the device at a discounted price. The device undergoes a complete refurbishment process before being offered for re-sale. Available exclusively at Microsoft Store."
If you prefer, brand new systems also seem to be available at the time of writing, for the usual RRP:

Any thoughts on what the issue was that led them to be returned to Microsoft?
@creek_king
Could be a range of issues and you'd likely never ever know. For £30, less than 7% reduction, I personally would steer clear. I used to work at Sony years ago and know first hand what electronic refurb entails. Not that its bad, but at the least someone else has had there hands all over it when testing/fixing/inspecting it.
Any idea how to do this in the US?
@KingDazzar
Nintendo fans: "My uncle works at Nintendo."
Xbox fans: "I used to work at Sony."
@NEStalgia
Now, now dont be like that, Mr Naughty. Or I'll send you to bed without any dinner.
Seriously though, I did work for Sony, but on Sony Broadcast Professional Europe, which is the film & broadcasting high end equipment part of Sony. All employees got access to "graded" retail Sony electronics and we shared the same warehousing.
I just checked the US Microsoft store and it was $549 starting price.
Contacted support asking why the refurbished was more expensive than a brand new one, they support disappeared and the store no longer lists the product.
£30 saving for a second hand, originally faulty machine??? Not read all article but i’d want at least 3 year warranty!!
@creek_king My guess just law of average on defects. Nothing on any production line is 100%. Pretty sure they look them up and very good before resale though.
About 4 or 5 hours ago, Amazon had (new) Series X's in stock, for those of you still looking for one..
@eagletrippin Still available on Amazon as of 7:45am Central time
@sjbsixpack FYI Refurb doesn’t have to mean it was once faulty. There’s a whole reason why people send them back from buyers remorse, to not having the money anymore, unwanted gifts, duplicate buys etc. All these have to be tested, checked and repacked if opened. Being faulty and fixed is just one reason and most of the time whatever issues it had will have been fixed.
Though there is a chance that the underlying issue was harder to detect and slipped through testing, but that is what the 1 year warranty is for.
I wouldn’t recommend getting a second hand console for just £30 less. It’s a big purchase and you might regret if faulty.
Especially when a brand new console can be bought off the official Microsoft store using gift card tricks for around £380.
@themightyant but for £30 less??? Maybe if it was £100 less but £30???
I've bought a couple of refurbed Apple products (Mac, iPod, iPad) in the past because they are several hundred dollars less and was pleased every single time.
£30 however is not a lot. I wouldn't bother.
@creek_king
I was thinking the same thing. I just got a SERIES X coming from PS5. Now I am nervous
To be fair, there is usually a difference between refurbished and second hand. My current phone was a refurb and it had clearly never been used. Didn't even feel like the box had ever been opened. Probably just got returned for some reason (bought the wrong one), inspected and resold at a cut down price.
I wouldnt buy a reverb unit as any intermittent fault might never have been picked up in the testing of the return.
it does come with a years warranty though and you can upgrade to 3 year warranty so maybe worth a go
Got mine a couple of days ago and was think I should of waited but then saw its only £30, what was the point , it should of been a minimum of 50
I'd rather have a brand new one for the extra £30
Great deal.
My Wii U was a refurb. Bought it for $200, and I've never had any issues with it (apart from it being the Wii U, of course).
