Randy Pitchford Steps Down As Gearbox Software President

Randy Pitchford, the former president of Gearbox Software, has announced he has stepped down from the position in favour of becoming the CEO and president of The Gearbox Entertainment Company.

Pitchford announced the shift in his position on Twitter, confirming that Steve Jones, the company's former chief technology officer, will be stepping up into the role of president at Gearbox Software.

In a statement, Pitchford said his new duties will include being "accountable and responsible for high level creative and business strategy, as well as the interaction between [the company's] business units, executive leadership team, and headquarters and office location functions".

He continued to say he will still be donning a "creative hat with several creative touch points around the company". If anyone is confused by the new change in leadership, Pitchford also provided a handy diagram explaining the moves in his tweet.

In a follow-up tweet, Pitchford added: "This move follows my commitment to our mission to entertain the world and our position to scale our creative engine via organic growth. Our organization is well poised for transformative increases in performance and scale.

"With multiple AAA projects underway and many more in our greenlight pipeline with Gearbox Software along with a raft of great games from Gearbox Publishing and an explosive transmedia business with Gearbox Studios, we are just getting started."

Gearbox has a few projects in the works going forward. In the gaming world, next year will see the release of Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, while the film industry will see the launch of a Borderlands movie.
