In some surprise news, Microsoft has announced that Xbox Cloud Gaming for Console has already begun rolling out to Xbox Insiders as of today, allowing you to play Game Pass games on your console without having to install them first.
The feature is available for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members, and is beginning its rollout to a random subset of Alpha Skip-Ahead and Alpha Insiders today, with more Insider rings set to receive the feature over time.
If you've been chosen, you'll find the full list of compatible titles by going to My Games & Apps > Full Library > Xbox Game Pass and setting the filter to “Cloud gaming”. Then, all you need to do is hit 'Play' to begin!
There are a few known issues right now, such as in-game purchases not being supported and games that are part of a bundle possibly failing to launch, but these will be fixed over time. There's no word on when more Xbox Insiders will join the fray, nor when to expect a public release, but hopefully we'll all be benefiting by the end of 2021.
Don't forget, this means Xbox One owners will (eventually) be able to play some Xbox Series X|S games as well!
"Cloud gaming on your console reduces your time to the fun and allows you to quickly jump into online multiplayer sessions with your friends by letting you play Xbox Game Pass games without having to wait for an install. Plus, save space on your hard drive! To get started, navigate to Xbox Game Pass on your console and look for games with the cloud icon."
Have you had a chance to try cloud gaming on your Xbox console yet? Let us know how you're getting on below.

Cool but it doesn't make a difference to me
Great! I wonder though when the 4K update to the Xbox dashboard will be out?
It’s cool but means zero to me.
I have GPU to download full games full on graphical experience.
Even more so now I have an LG C1 and series x update Dolby vision 120hz and also Dolby atmos.
If you gonna play it, play it at its upmost true best.
It's really cool alright but I probably won't use it to be honest. I am lucky enough to have an unmetered super fast internet connection, so downloading games is always a breeze.
This is going to be an amazing feature once it's released my looking forward to it
@Dezzy70 Lol, well of course. No need to show off your junk. But, for those with Xbox Ones, this will be huge to be able to at least play Series games while they wait to get one (once they support that, which I'm sure is coming soon). Also, a great way to try a game out quick without having to download it.
I think its a fantastic feature!!! I have tried on Laptop - I played The Artful Escape and its great...
It means I can try any of those games instantly without having to wait for it to install and with 'limited' Series X Game space, I don't have to juggle things around...
I wouldn't of tried The Artful Escape but the fact it was available to play instantly, I gave it a go. There are numerous games that I maybe would try, but don't know if I could be bothered to wait for them to download and/or 'juggle' my games around to give something a 'try'...
Yes, if I think a game is worth downloading and playing with all the benefits of playing locally on a Series X and 4k screen, then I will 'bother' to download, make room etc - but the option to try by a 'very' adequate streaming service, means that I 'know' its worth it.
Can't wait until it comes to console but loving the option on my Laptop - really helps when the TV is occupied!!
@Trmn8r
It’s not junk 😂😂😂
Did I mention the sound system 😂
Just having fun.
This sounds great for the very few people with incredibly fast internet connections.
Honestly, the only real use I see for this is video game streaming to smartphones.
Still want PC GamePass games to be available to stream on Xbox. There’s some good games that aren’t on console on it!
@JayJ I don't know, man. I thought so too but then again why would I want to play an "inferior" version of the game instead of waiting 10~ minutes for it to fully download?
Question...
Will cloud streaming through an app in the console have any performance benefits over streaming through Edge on the console
Tried Edge on console today... Dirt 5 was just about acceptable. Pretty playable, albeit degraded visuals. Also tried Halo 5 MP and had horrible motion sickeness (not affect by it when I play the downloaded game)! Don't know if it was because of dropped frames or what, but was a horrible experience.
I have a pretty good internet speed, 150meg, but this will be nice for instantly dipping into a game to see if it's worth downloading or even purchasing.
Nice for those stuck on last gen unable to get their hands on a series console too. Another great feature. 👍🏻
I'm intrigued. When I streamed games from my phone over wifi, with a bluetooth connected controller, the input latency left something to be desired. And I wondered, with a wired connection and a more powerful device, if that would be cut down, dramatically. Now we get to find out. Fingers crossed.
I guess that this feature will be cool try out a bunch of games, if I like it I'll download it, I guess. Play them with a press of a button make you want try all games, it's like zapping on the TV channels. And it could be great for those who couldn't get a XSS or a XSX and own a Xbox one.
This will help clearing those Microsoft rewards hopefully. I have fast internet but rather not be downloading huge games just to try them out. Microsoft is really wrapping up their ecosystem into an all encompassing gamescape.
@Halucigens That’s exactly what I’ll use it for - to nab the rewards without fully downloading the games.
Considering what a graphical and performance drop this is compared to playing natively at 4K the only times I think I’d use this are
1) trying/demoing a game.
2) playing on a second Xbox e.g. Xbox One
3) earning rewards/quests without downloading the game. (Looking at you Ark 100+gb for +75 points😂)
Still it’s a nice feature to have and will become better as the tech improves
@Halucigens Yeah, great for that too, but also my X ssd is constantly maxed out, so yeah try before you download option is really a good QoL thing while shuffling things around between my internal and external drive, or even play while downloading sounds good too.... I am in the beta insiders ring, so hopefully gonna be able to try it soon.
Awesome. Makes it easy to try some of those game pass games that we're not quite sure about without having to wait for a download or worry about space
Hopefully it's less buggy than the PC app. That......still needs work. When it works, it's great. But there's so many annoying problems and glitches it feels like legit PC gaming when I use it. I go to play games, then spend the first half hour just troubleshooting why it's not working right. Once it gets going it's fine, but between random "why is it stuttering at 10fps until I reboot" and "why do I not have BT audio from one particular game, but can launch other games and audio is fine, and the system audio is fine, but even quitting and restarting that one game, it won't start"....just random weird glitches.
@Roqka Well the problem is that it's hard to stream and download at the same time.
Considering I haven't been able to get a hold of a Series X all year then looks like this'll be how I'd be able to play next gen games for the time being. I've tried cloud on my phone a few times, but it's always been completely unplayable with an input lag measured in seconds even when on WiFi.
I just hope Flight Simulator comes to cloud as that's the game I'm most excited to try.
