After some not so subtle teases, a reboot of the Saints Row franchise has been announced, arriving for Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S on February 25, 2022.
The reboot will be set in a new fictional city riddled with violence and crime. You'll be engaging in classic shooting, driving and other ludicrous open-world activities. It's said to be the biggest entry in the series so far.
There's also a tiny bit of gameplay to sink your teeth into, showing all the chaotic action you'll be engaging in an extremely vibrant city:
If you're looking to bridge the gap in the meantime, you can check out Saints Row: The Third Remastered, which recently received an Xbox Series X|S upgrade. We also have Grand Theft Auto V re-releasing for next-gen consoles this November, so there's some more open-world mayhem on the horizon to tickle your taste buds.
Experience the biggest and best Saints Row playground ever created; the unique sprawling world of Santo Ileso is the backdrop for a wild, larger than life sandbox of thrilling side hustles, criminal ventures and blockbuster missions, as you shoot, drive, and wingsuit your way to the top.
As the future Boss, with Neenah, Kevin, and Eli by your side, you’ll form The Saints – and take on Los Panteros, The Idols, and Marshall as you build your empire across the streets of Santo Ileso and battle for control of the city. Ultimately Saints Row is the story of a start-up company, it’s just that the business The Saints are in happens to be crime.

Hopefully, there's some character customization in the near future.
Lol no super powers anymore? I really liked that.
Awesome!
Day one for me.
I'm hoping this has customisation. partly because there's where a lot of the in game funds go, but also because having a random cocky in the middle of this US gang story was amazing
It looks good, if it reviews well I might pick this up...
Gameplay starts at 2:41 mark.
Man I hate the direction gaming is going. I couldn’t be any less interested after seeing the bunch of annoying idiots in the trailer. Reminded me of the last trailer at Xbox’s e3, I can’t even remember the name of that game, with vampires, similar bunch of annoying characters. No thanks.
I'm surprised at the good buzz, it all seemed so flat, like the most generic, trendy summer blockbuster you forget about a year later. The first series was jubilantly irreverent and politically incorrect at every turn. This looks safe and on-point for every single hollywood everything ever. Maybe the game gets better, but the trailer feels like something that should be running on Netflix in the background while you're playing video games you are interested in.
It just doesn't seem Saint's Row. It's trying too hard, and trying to be modern/trendy too hard.
@Fenbops Strikes me as targeting the tweenie-boppers with the "cool kids as adults" shtick. Basically the Fortnight crowd. Same as tarted by most blockbuster movies, where copping attitude in the face of a gun barrel is "funny" somehow without actually having comedic dialogue or situations other than being unrealistic.
Basically the stuff that used to air after school on WB and UPN networks.
The Vampire thing may have more to it though, that doesn't seem as shallow as this, but I'm still only half-sold on that, largely because Arcane is behind it, and they never really screw up.
I was looking forward to no other game more than this one and then watched this trailer. What a turd. 100% interested to 0% interested in only 3 minutes. Great job.
@NEStalgia I don’t know if it’s just me getting older but I find these characters in games more and more intolerable. They all look the same, act the same and seem to have their silly one liners taken right out of marvel movies. Like you say they all look like they’re from Fortnite.
I can only judge that vampire game by whats been shown, a 5 minute CGI trailer of cringeworthy know it all characters. I think I’m already out no matter what the gameplay could be like.
@Fenbops Couldn't possibly agree more.
@Fenbops I think it's a mix of older, not that we've aged out of this particular type of format, but that it's a format that never existed for us to begin with and mostly only is made for the younger set who have been engineered to like it (we were engineered to like other things of course, but things were also a bit less formulaic back then.)
That doesn't mean it's not objectively terrible. It is. It's just that the younger set has been well trained to recognize this brand of terrible as cool. In 20 years they'll wonder WTF they were watching/playing back then. The kind of thing that only works on young minds that haven't gotten tired of it because it kinds of feels familiar to the middle school world they know IRL. But that's the problem, it feels like freaking middle school. which hasn't actually changed since our time. It sucked then and it still sucks now. Anybody not in that age group will recognize it for what it is: obnoxious.
And you hit the nail on the head, it all echoes Marvel movies. Just like 10 years ago every game echoed either Walking Dead or Lord of the Rings. Just cashing in on the zeitgiest. Not that that's new in media. Babes in Toyland was the b-grade cash in to replicate Wizard of Oz. White Christmas, despite now being the famous one was the cheap low grade cash grab to replicate Holiday Inn. Hollywood does what Hollywood always does. And now game does it too.
I just accept and brace for most mainstream things aiming for that Marvel aesthetic now. It makes money, I get it. But to reboot a franchise that pretty much glorified racist, sexist, psycho, murderous bigoted characters as deified idols as it's entire purpose, a giant mockery of every trope and every trope mockery, and a giant middle finger to it's own source material, it feels twice as wrong, like a new producer was given a franchise and told "make this sell well." The whole point of Saints Row as to laugh at GTA, the industry, and the media. This.....embraces it. It's like The Last of Us 3 being a comedy.
That ratio LOL
Any intrest I had in this game went after watching that. That wasnt Saints Row in fact what the hell was it? It looked like awful with its look and feel.
Way to kill a gaming franchise.
"It looks like we are living the bad ending" Someone on the internet - 2021
Saints Row is the very reason I even own an xbox. Having loved Saints Row 2, I bought a 360 in order to play Saints Row 1.
And sadly, I have to agree. I don’t know what this is, but it is not Saints Row.
If I do play this, I imagine the only thought going through my mind shall be “I miss Gat”.
At the minute this game looks lazy enough to even make me miss Pierce.
@SHULZ21 IGN article says it has co-op, character customisation, and that there are 8 voices
I’m sure this game will be enjoyed by new fans.
It seems they are just cashing in on the name of a known IP to push a coop open world game, but this isn’t what I think any fan of the series was hoping for.
@swedetrap Yeah after seeing that trailer all hope for liking this game went down the toilet all I wanted was for saints row to go back to its roots with a proper remake
