Surprise! Rockstar Games has announced the release date for the next-gen version of Grand Theft Auto V, and it's coming to Xbox Series X|S on November 11.
The Xbox Series X|S release is said to come "with new features and more", according to an official Rockstar Games blog post. Not only that, but the summer updates for GTA Online will also feed special rewards into the next-gen version. While there's no word on what the next-gen benefits will be, a previous statement to Gamespot from Rockstar revealed that the game "will feature a range of technical improvements, visual upgrades and performance enhancements to take full advantage of the latest hardware."
The expanded and enhanced versions of Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online are arriving on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S with new features and more, on November 11th, 2021. As an added bonus — this summer's updates to GTA Online will include special benefits for players to take advantage of in these expanded and enhanced versions when they drop. Plus, in honor of the upcoming 20th anniversary of the genre defining Grand Theft Auto III, we’ll have even more fun surprises to share — including some specifically for GTA Online players.
There's no trailer or media for the next-gen version yet, but with the release date out in the wild, we wager it won't be long until we hear more about the upcoming enhanced version.

Bought it for 360, bought it for One, if you want me to buy it again Rockstar then make it super cheap (max £10 and maybe for that I get a GTA III remake thrown in too ).
It really should be a smart delivery freebie... and I'm not usually someone who says entitled comments like 'upgrades should always be free' etc, I get that development costs money, but this is the third generation of this game now and they make lots of money from the online component, come on Rockstar.
The standalone version of GTA Online will be PS5 exclusive for 3 months, laugh my ass off )
One edition of the online version of a 8 years old game is exclusive to PlayStation for three months! What kind of deal was it? MS should put GTA V in Smart Delivery program so that everyone would receive the online version for free rather than boasting about 3 months of exclusivity of only the online standalone version!
I played this game in 2015 on the PlayStation 3. Why on Earth would I play it again 6 years later. Its the same game.
Cool, another system I won't play this game on.
I am going to get hate for this... But i am one of the minority who believes game companies should put very little effort into re-making games or re-issuing games and instead put all of their effort into making New games. Where is GTA 6? Why is there no news about it? Because they are still making upgrades to an old game that most people have already played and beaten. Again, i do realize that i am in the minority here and that my opinion only matters to myself, but come one... why would i want to play a game that old that i already beat? I just want new games for the Series X so that i can be excited... Enough with the 8-bit games and enough with the re-makes.
Remakes/remasters are easy money as you've already got a lot of the assets and systems in place. To ask companies that love their profits to not make these things cause it's not something one likes, and would like new IPs or whatever is silly.
People buy them, and as long as they do, it won't stop.
@OliverOwen yeah you are wrong. All we need in life is GTA 5 remade every month for a whole new fee. We will all buy it, because that's all we need. GTA GTA GTA GTA. Haha I'm being completely sarcastic. 100% couldn't agree more.
No mention of price, I see. If this game costs anything even resembling full price, my second to last shred of faith in humanity will be gone. The last one will be gone when idiots buy it for the third time.
It has a brilliant single player story, which I’ve completed twice (Xbox 360 then PS4) but I never got into GTA Online. Unless it’s dirt cheap or a free upgrade I don’t think I’ll be triple-dipping!
@EquiinoxGII Thank you for understanding! Most of the time i comment and get hate for my opinions. Oh well, life goes on. Also, i am not saying that this isn't a great game already, but seriously, i have to assume that most people want to play a new game and not replay an old game?
I'm not gonna lie, I'll probably get this if there is a 60fps mode for the story. I have no interest GTA Online though.
Nice, This might actually give me a reason to play the online now..
@OliverOwen You're not wrong, but the mindset Take Two and Rockstar are in probably goes something like "why make/release a GTA6 when we're still making stupid amounts of money off GTA Online microtransactions and re-selling GTA5?"
GTA5 has been an almost constant fixture in the top 10 in the UK charts since 2013. It wouldn't surprise me if GTA6 never materialises and Rockstar's focus moving forward is purely GTA Online.
@VenomousAlbino I completely agree. And that is the problem. I can't get behind this type of thinking but at the same time, i can't fault the developers for their actions. It's too bad because all i want are new games for the Series X.
I played it and beat it, on the 360.
Then I got it and played through it again on xbo, but in first person mode. Very different game. I'm honestly interested to see what additions are there for the series x|s/ps5 editions. Whether I'll triple dip, is another story, but I wanna see what they'll bring.
Imagine playing through gta v, in vr, with the new vr haptics on ps5.
Yeah, they just not gonna bother themselves developing any kind of single player DLC for the remaster as it gonna sells like hotcakes regardless
I wish they would quit beating an already dead horse. Yes I know the main reason the keep releasing GTA V is because of GTA Online but come one just do like Activision did with Warzone. That way people who want a new single player experience get that. I mean let's be serious who hasn't played GTA V story mode by now.
I've waited since the Xbox 360 for GTA 6. now we are on the Xbox series x and Rockstar is still rereleasing GTA 5 and no GTA 6.
We all know this will be a £70 release and GTA Online will probably be made available seperately for £25.
Crazy to think game will be sold at full price across 3 generations of consoles now. Still no GTA VI in sight...
My annoyance with GTA V was it was announced as coming to 360/PS3 exclusively, and they stated it was not coming to next-gen (X1/PS4). Now, that was false. Additionally, in their initial Take-Two shareholder reports, they stated they had an additional single-player story DLC planned in the first year of GTA V's release. That was also false.
Played it on 360, won't play it again. Too long to complete or play again when there is so many other games I am yet to play. If you want to remaster something, remaster the ones that predate the achievement era.
GTA III Remastered maybe??? Bring it!! And Vice City!!
