The sheer number of impressive free games on Xbox is staggering right now, especially when quite a few of them are packed to the brim with content. What's even more enticing is how many of those titles have also received a free next-gen upgrade, with Vigor now joining that celebrated list of games.

As indicated in the latest blog post to coincide with the launch of Season 9, the team at Bohemia Interactive revealed some juicy performance enhancements for next-gen consoles. With the new season, players on both Xbox Series X and Series S can expect to see a frame-rate increase from 30fps to 60fps.

However, this is only the beginning, as the developer has also revealed plans for further upgrades. The aim is "to increase the target resolution, boost the quality of the shadows, and sharpen the overall image", but not just yet.

"What we plan on doing next is to use the additional power we get from the next gen consoles to boost image quality. Our team would like to increase the target resolution, boost the quality of the shadows, and sharpen the overall image. But we still have to investigate it."

Vigor isn't the only free-to-play game that's still hoping to leverage the power of next-gen systems. Splitgate recently launched into beta and the developers have stated an upgrade will be coming in the future. It's fantastic to not only have these games available entirely for free, but also see them receive updates to bolster their performance.
