If you're an Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S owner, the only way you can play next-gen games right now is via those consoles' internal storage, or via a special Seagate 1TB Expansion Card which admittedly is very costly.
However, Amazon in the UK has now dropped the price to its joint lowest figure yet, going from £219.99 at launch, to £179.99 as of today. We're not sure how long this deal will last, but hopefully it'll stick around for a while.

The reason the Seagate 1TB Expansion Card is so expensive is because it's custom built to run at exactly the same high speeds as the internal storage on the new consoles, meaning games load much faster than on last-gen systems, and transferring data between the internal storage and the Expansion Card is seriously rapid.
You can, of course, just store next-gen games on any old USB hard drive until you're ready to play them, and Xbox One, Xbox 360 and original Xbox games work just fine on generic external hard drives, so you don't need one of these right away. But if you've had one on your wishlist for a while, this is equivalent to the best deal we've seen so far.

Still way too expensive to me, knock another £100 off so it’s £79.99 then I’d consider it.
I ordered one this morning to be delivered tonight, £179 was the highest I'd pay.
Seems like a better price. Especially as it is a plug and play solution.
Over on my PS5 side there is no expansion to internal ssd and you have to take the console in a minor way apart, when one does arrive.
@SplooshDmg
I prefer Xbox solution overall and the main point is they have currently have one and we can agree on that 😂.
It’s like I’ve always said console wise size etc and UI wise smart delivery etc the series x has it for me hands down.
Game wise still the PS5 until we get FH5 and hopefully an amazing halo campaign wise, though that one is more concerning right now.
Then we shall see what next year brings.
Good price, I bought mine at that price. The extra storage does make playing more games easier, to be honest the 1 tb stock was too small to begin with, should've been 2tb out of the box
Yes, they are expensive.
But it basically doubles the hard drive size. I got the Storage Expansion Card in order to basically “future-proof” the Series X.
I imagine newer games will all need lots more room.
Sure, I have a nice external HDD. You can store series x games on the external drive, but they will not actually play. I also find that copying files from the external drive takes far, far longer than it used to with the OneX.
Or is that just me?
Besides, the 5TB external usb drive is already half full - 360 games, Xbox One games …..for the past fifteen years.
And, then there is the PS5, which doesn’t even have a 1TB internal hard drive. Something like 850GB
@SplooshDmg
Good point and I hope you are totally correct.
Halo Infinite campaign wise and with future updates has the potential to take me back to the original Xbox Halo days.
@SplooshDmg
Well they are making us proud with the series x console so far and game pass.
Of course play ground games and FH5, that studio is amazing and in my home land England.
However they manage and have that studio set up they should use as an exemplary example.

The thing with Forza Horizon especially after Forza Horizon 4 in the UK it is a game franchise that is really related to Xbox and the brand and is talked about probably the most in the UK.
The only really bad situation at the minute is the lack of Series x to buy in the UK, remembering out side of the USA is the second biggest Xbox market, the UK doesn’t really fall in line with the rest of Europe and the PS5 as much.
The PS5 does sell more in the UK, but some of that is due to Sony getting more consoles made and into the UK than Microsoft do with the Series x.
Xbox missing a big opportunity here in the UK.
The last two week series x stock has been terrible, probably the worst two weeks I have seen since launch.
They need to get making more and getting them over to the UK quicker.
@SplooshDmg
Agree with most of your comments.
But they should lose sleep over it, because to become the best and stay the best means you lose sleepy over every detail and not supplying to a current high demand and when in high demand is something to lose sleep over as a business.
Let’s not forget one of the reasons the slight disaster the Xbox one was is because they are trillion dollar company and got to big for their heads and did not care and did not lose sleep.
If they are have that attitude of we are a trillion dollar company and don’t care then they will stay forever in third place behind Sony and Nintendo in the console game market and in overall eco game system be it consoles or merchandise.
Let’s not forget they have been outsold every month in Europe at 3:1 to PS5 plus more to the Switch and are third and I think apart from month also in the USA out sold every month.
Now I know console sales are the everything, but sell more consoles you sell more gamepass.
I would want to out sell my competition every month and by the more the better.
And being honest if Xbox did out sell and was too every month Microsoft would let us know about it.
Soz a bit long winded, but I’m in business and strongly believe your company should always try to excel and be the best and top at their game.
@SplooshDmg
That whole car situation seems strange as in the UK we can get new cars not a problem.
Some good deals as well like interest free etc and money off, here seems like they are struggling to sell cars so good deals all round.
@SplooshDmg
And yes Microsoft and Xbox etc are the biggest threat to Sony they have every been.
Maybe not right now, but in about 2 years or the future if Microsoft keeps this up and studios and AAA games and game pass value etc, Sony could be in a bit of bother.
Time will tell.
@SplooshDmg
Must admit I purchased the Sony A80J OLED the other week instead of the LG C1.
After lots of looking and demos.
I will say I know only 2 hdmi 2:1 sockets and no VRR at the minute.
But the picture quality has to be overall the best I’ve seen on a TV.
The detail, the depth perception and the motion as smooth as silk.
It has game mode as good as any with picture adjustments etc.
My series x and PS5 absolutely buzz on this tv.
Doom eternal on X 60fps 4K ray tracing is pure vision delight.
@The_New_Butler
Yes just seen it.
It is a pathetic solution to internal ssd expansion.
It’s 2021 and you should never have to take apart or a screw driver to this sort of technology.
I hope the process is electric static discharge protected.
Even the N64 was a plug and play expansion device.
This is very anti consumer and poor especially for 2021 let alone the cost.
@The_New_Butler
It’s bad design in my opinion and not consumer friendly at all.
It was always going to more expensive the PS5 solution as the ssd is a faster specification being honest.
